Drivers to avoid in the Sonoma Toyota / Save Mart 350
Paul Menard – Paul Menard has raced here four times and has only once finished in the top twenty. His lone top twenty finish came in last years race when he started 3rd and finished in 17th. His other finishes are 22nd, 21st and 34th. His performances at Watkins Glen haven’t been any better. At the Glen his best finish is 16th and his average finish is 24.9 (8 races). When you add up all of this information it’s pretty easy to come to the conclusion road courses aren’t his thing. Last year Menard scored the 23rd most points in the series on this track type. Jeff Burton – In the last three races at Sonoma Jeff Burton has finished 21st, 27th and 34th. Overall Infineon has not been a good track for Burton. In eighteen races he has only finished in the top five once and has finished in the top 20 in just half his races. At the other road course though he’s had recent success. In the last two races at Watkins Glen Burton has two 9th place finishes. I am not expecting a very good result for him at Infineon. (Yahoo! B Driver)

Robby Gordon – At Infineon we’ll have our first Robby Gordon sighting at a Sprint Cup event since Phoenix. The #1 worry regarding Robby Gordon has to be how good is his equipment. He’s DNF’ed in his two races this year. One DNF was engine related and the other was brakes related. Throughout his career he’s had some success at Infineon. In 2003 he won in RCR equipment and in 2010 he finished 2nd in his own ride. Last season Gordon started in 28th and finished 18th. One weakness every time Gordon races here is that he gets poor fuel mileage. (Yahoo! C Driver)
Regan Smith – Last year at Infineon Regan Smith had his best finish on a road course. He finished 16th and even led 5 laps (pit sequences allowed him to lead those laps). In his other Infineon races he finished 30th and 38th. His record at Watkins Glen is pretty dismal. He has a 31.3 average finish in three races despite having started 10th twice. If he qualifies well in the Save Mart 350 I still urge you to avoid him. (Yahoo! B Driver)
Bobby Labonte – Labonte’s last top 10 finish at Infineon was back in 2003. Since then his average finish is 29.9 and he’s only finished on the lead lap in three races. Bobby Labonte has never led a lap at this road course. His recent record at Watkins Glen is pretty similar. His one recent bright spot on road courses was his 19th place finish at the Glen last August. Labonte has only finished in the top 15 once this season so don’t get your hopes up, he’s no sleeper pick. (Yahoo! D Driver)
David Ragan – David Ragan has raced at Infineon five times and all of his finishes are between 24th and 33rd. At the other road course all of his finishes are between 24th and 32nd. It’s safe to say he’s not a road course ringer. If he finishes above 30th I would honestly be surprised. I’m not expecting many start and parkers in this race so Ragan won’t get his usual buffer zone of avoiding a really bad finish. (Yahoo! D Driver)
