Kentucky Quaker State 400: Drivers to avoid
Jeff Burton – Jeff Burton had a mid pack performance at Kentucky last year. He started in 22nd and drove up to the low teens. Unfortunately for him though he was a driver who got burned by a caution during green flag pit stops. Burton has not been good on 1.5 mile tracks this season. His average finish is 21st and his average running position is 21.3. Burton has only ran in the top 15 in 5% of the laps run on 1.5 mile tracks. (Yahoo! B Driver)

Regan Smith – Last year at Kentucky Regan Smith finished 17th and had an average running position of 17th. He started in 10th but only had a better running position during an early pit cycle. After the first round of pit stops he had a “teens” car for the rest of the race. Smith has not performed good on 1.5 mile tracks this season. His finishes on tracks of this length are 15th (Las Vegas), 23rd (Texas), 24th (Kansas) and 17th (Charlotte). I think a high teens to mid twenties finish should be expected. (Yahoo! B Driver)

Michael Waltrip – Mark Martin will not be piloting the #55 at Kentucky, Michael Waltrip will. This will be Waltrip’s first race at a non-restrictor plate track since 2010. I don’t know how serious of an attempt this is on his part besides racing in front of his fans but I think he’ll finish 25th or worse. Waltrip’s historical strength on intermediate tracks was running the high line around tracks and at Kentucky there’s only a low line. (Yahoo! C Driver)
Bobby Labonte – Last year at Kentucky Labonte started in 24th and finished 26th. His finish was essentially where he ran all race long in the Quaker State 400 (average running position was 25th). Labonte has not been good on 1.5 mile intermediate tracks this season. His best finish on a 1.5 mile track is 26th and his average finish is 29th. (Yahoo! C Driver)

David Ragan – Look for David Ragan to finish right in front of the start and parkers in the Quaker State 400. Last year at Kentucky he finished 8th and even led 3 laps. The only laps he’ll lead this year will be if he stays out late during the pit cycle. So far in 2012 his best finish on this track type (1.5 mile intermediate) is a 21st place finish at Las Vegas. His other 1.5 mile finishes are 35th, 30th, and 35th. (Yahoo! C Driver)
