Pure Michigan 400 Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions
Paul Menard – Menard had a good car in June at Michigan. He qualified in 4th and ran in the top ten until an early pit stop where he took four and everyone else took two. That decision dropped him back to about 20th. From that point on he consistently ran between the mid-teens and top ten. When the checkered flag waved he finished 14th. Last August at Michigan Menard had a good performance. In that race he started in 10th, had a 10th place average running position and finished 9th. In 2011 he had his one other top ten finish here (4th). From a career perspective he’s been somewhat of a volatile fantasy option at Michigan. He’s finished outside the top twenty in over half his races. This season on high-speed intermediate tracks he’s been solid. His 14.6 average finish on this sub-track type ranks as the 10th best. In the seven races on this track type he has 3 top tens and 5 top fifteens. My prediction is that Paul Menard will finish Mid Pack in the Pure Michigan 400. (Yahoo! B Driver)
Aric Almirola – Aric Almirola has been a consistent driver at MIS. He’s raced here three-times and has finished between 17th and 20th every race. Earlier this year he started in 5th, had a 15th place average running position and finished 17th. This season on high-speed intermediate tracks he’s typically been a low double-digit performer. In the races on this sub track type he has two top tens and a 12.8 average finish minus his accident at Charlotte. (Yahoo! B Driver)

Denny Hamlin – In June Denny Hamlin was shockingly uncompetitive. Not at any point in the race did he look good. In the race he had a 29th place average running position, finished 30th and earned the 30th best driver rating. He didn’t hit anything in the race or have any notable issues, his car was just that bad. At Michigan Hamlin is a two-time winner but he’s had some poor finishes here recently. In the last four races at MIS he has finishes of 11th, 30th, 34th and 35th. Prior to these last four races he had five consecutive top ten finishes that included four results in the top three. Auto Club Speedway is Michigan’s sister track and earlier this season he was going to finish either first or second until he wrecked on the last lap. This season on high-speed intermediate tracks he’s been good in general but he’s had a ton of problems. Really the main question is can he run a race without having any issues?
