Six Risky Fantasy Picks – Talladega Camping World RV Sales 500
Dale Earnhardt Jr. – Dale Earnhardt Jr. is a five time winner at Talladega but his most recent victory was nearly a decade ago. Typically at Talladega Junior has been at his best in the spring. Since 2007 his spring finish has been better than his fall finish. In the last seven spring races he has five top tens and a 8.8 average finish. In the last six fall races he has a best finish of 11th and an average result of 27th. In May Dale Earnhardt Jr. had a fast car but finished 17th. He just wasn’t positioned correctly at the end. It should be noted though that he did earn the 7th best driver rating. This season on plate tracks Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been one of the best drivers. In the three races on this track type he has the second best average finish (9.0) and the third best driver rating. If you decide to pick him take note of my spring / fall warning. On Sunday Dale Earnhardt Jr. will start in 8th.
Kasey Kahne – Kasey Kahne hasn’t had any luck on restrictor plate tracks this season. Actually I’ll take that back and say he’s had very bad luck. At Talladega this spring he had a short race and only completed 42 laps thanks to Kyle Busch’s bump drafting ability. In the Daytona 500 he also was the victim of Kyle Busch. The summer Daytona race was the only plate race Busch hasn’t taken him out and even in that race he wrecked. This is not a positive trend but perhaps it could be viewed in a way that he’s used up all of his bad luck. Talladega has historically been a treacherous track for Kahne. He has a 21.5 average finish and has had a result outside the top twenty 58% percent of the time. On Sunday Kasey Kahne will start in 28th.
