Martinsville Goody’s Headache Relief Shot 500 Fantasy NASCAR Front Runner Rankings
Dale Earnhardt Jr. – Martinsville has historically been a good track for Dale Earnhardt Jr. He has a 13.4 average finish and has had a result in the top ten 52% percent of the time. Also at Martinsville he has a 13.8 average starting position and has led 868 laps. Recently at Martinsville Dale Earnhardt Jr. hasn’t had problem free races. Earlier this year his car just seemed off for whatever reason. He started in 17th, earned the 14th best driver rating and finished 24th. With 35 laps to go while he was running in the mid to upper teens he spun and went a lap down on the track. Last fall he made his return following his concussion and finished 21st. In the race he performed better than his result. He had an 8th place average running position and earned the 7th best driver rating. What happened is that late in the race he was on old tires and got spun. In the four Martinsville races prior to that he had four consecutive top ten finishes and had a 4.75 average finish. Denny Hamlin – Denny Hamlin missed the race at Martinsville this spring due to his back injury. In Hamlin’s last race here (October 2012) he may of very well had the best car at Martinsville. He passed more cars than anyone and excelled at driving off the corners. Passing the most cars isn’t something that should be bragged about when the reason for that is self-inflicted. In the race Hamlin had not one but two speeding penalties (blamed it on his brakes being to good). Those penalties didn’t keep him down for long because he passed cars at will. In the race Hamlin had a fatal strike three that he couldn’t recover from. Around lap #370 he had master switch problems which sent him to the garage. If he didn’t have that problem he was a lock to finish in the top three. Martinsville has always been a good track for Hamlin. He’s won four times and when you take away his 2012 master switch problems and 2006 crash then he has a 4.1 average finish. (Yahoo A Driver)

Brad Keselowski – Brad Keselowski has sleeper potential for the Martinsville Goody’s Headache Relief Shot 500. He currently has three consecutive top ten finishes and his average result is 11.3. If anything I would say his average finish underrates his body of work here slightly. Earlier this year at Martinsville Keselowski had a strong car. He started in 7th, had an 8th place average running position, earned the 8th best driver rating and finished 6th. Last fall at Martinsville he also finished 6th but it’s one of those results that deserve an asterisk mark. In that race he started in 32nd and was mediocre for much of the race. His saving grace in the race was when there was a caution with 20 laps to go. He elected not to pit and inherited the lead. He managed to lead 8 laps but he stood no chance against his competitors on new tires. In spring 2012 Brad Keselowski had a great car. He likely would’ve finished in the top five but he was an innocent victim in the Bowyer dive bomb carnage. In that race his car was very fast over long runs. At some points in the race he was running faster lap times than both Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson. (Yahoo A Driver)
