Yahoo C List Fantasy NASCAR Preview – Phoenix AdvoCare 500
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. – In March Ricky Stenhouse Jr. made his first start at Phoenix. In the race he performed well for a rookie. He started in 12th, finished 16th and had a 17th place average running position. Among Yahoo C listers entered in this race he was the second highest finisher. His performance in this tier was clearly the best though. He ran 36.7% percent of the laps in the top fifteen and the next highest driver in this tier is David Gilliland and he only ran 13.9% percent of the laps within this range. Richmond is the most similar track on the schedule and at that venue this spring he finished 16th and in the fall he earned the first top ten of his career.
Elliott Sadler – Elliott Sadler has never raced at Phoenix in a Cup car since it’s been reconfigured. The old surface still has some correlation in terms of driving style and he struggled on it. On the previous surface between 2007 and 2010 he had a best finish of 27th and an average finish of 31.4. Earlier this year in the Nationwide Series he finished 5th at Phoenix. In 2012 in the lower series he had results of 1st and 22nd. I think the best case scenario for Sadler in the Phoenix AdvoCare 500 is a 20th place result.
Casey Mears – Casey Mears is the top Yahoo C List finisher from March who’ll be Phoenix AdvoCare 500. Earlier this season he started in 43rd, had a 26th place average place average running position and finished 14th. In his other races on the new surface he’s had results of 22nd, 26th and 39th. This season on shorter flat tracks he’s really struggled. Excluding his result at Phoenix he has a 29.3 average finish and a 31.8 average running position.

David Ragan – David Ragan had a short race this March. On lap 185 when Danica Patrick spun he got collected in the carnage and finished 38th. In his other races on the new surface at Phoenix he’s had results of 25th, 33rd and 33rd. Hope you see the warning signs here. On shorter flat tracks this season Ragan has a 27.0 average finish and a 27.3 average running position.
Justin Allgaier – Justin Allgaier will be returning behind the wheel of the 51 car at Phoenix. I think he has rather weak fantasy value for the AdvoCare 500. The best case scenario for him is likely a low twenties finish. In the lower series earlier this year he finished 3rd. In 2012 he had results of 15th and 11th.
Danica Patrick – In November 2012 Danica Patrick had a good race at Phoenix. At the time of the green-white-checker she was in 13th but she was spun by Jeff Burton in turn 4 and ended up finishing 17th. I wouldn’t get to excited about her performance in that race though. She got lapped on lap 94 and had a 26th place average running position. This spring she didn’t finish nearly as well. On lap 185 she wrecked and took out David Ragan. In the other races on shorter flat tracks this season she has a 30.8 average finish and a 30.3 average running position.
