Michigan Pre-Race Notes
This was Mark Martin’s final race in the 55
Joey Logano won the pole and elected to start in the outside groove.
Jimmie Johnson was in a backup car and started in the rear of the field. He qualified 3rd for the race.
Jamie McMurray started in the back due to an engine change.
Austin Dillon drove the #14.
Race Notes
Kurt Busch started in 2nd and led the first 5 laps.
On lap #2 running in 11th place Clint Bowyer spun by himself and didn’t get any damage.
Joey Logano got the lead following the first caution and led until lap 32.
David Reutimann spun on lap #8
On lap #13 Austin Dillon and JJ Yeley spun. Austin Dillon sustained no damage but he did drop one lap down.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. looked strong early.
Running order on lap 20: 22,78,88,2,31,20,18,56,29,42 … 16,39,24,99,27,17,38,15,48,34 … 43,55,9,11,10,21,5
Jimmie Johnson was in 19th on lap 20. He started in the rear of the field in a backup car.
Mark Martin struggled early. Started in 4th and was in 22nd on lap 23.
Johnson was in 15th on lap 31.
Kurt Busch took the lead from Logano on lap 33. On the pass for the lead Earnhardt Jr. also got around Logano.
On lap 54 Johnson was on pit road with his hood up. His car couldn’t get up to speed and as a result he went to the garage area. At the time of the incident he was running in the top ten.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. took the lead on lap 54 and led until lap 72.
