Dover AAA 400 Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions
Tony Stewart – Tony Stewart’s most recent Sprint Cup victory came at Dover in spring 2013. That victory was completely unexpected and was shocking. In that event his car was “teen’s good” at best. In the race he led 3 laps, had a 15th place average running position and earned the 10th best driver rating. The turning point for Stewart in the race was when Denny Hamlin crashed with 20 laps to go. That allowed Stewart to use pit strategy and if the caution didn’t happen I think it’s unlikely he would’ve even finished in the top ten. Another aspect that aided him greatly was the number of drivers who didn’t have incident free races. What truly made his win head scratching is how bad he performed at Dover leading up to the event. In the five Dover races prior to his win he finished between 20th and 29th every race. This spring at Dover he performed well. Through the first 3/4ths of the race he looked like a sub top ten driver but in the last quarter of the race I would estimate his average running position was likely around 5th. When the checkered flag waved Stewart finished 7th, had an 11th place average running position and earned the 10th best driver rating. (Yahoo B Driver)

Greg Biffle – Greg Biffle didn’t have an incident free race at Dover this spring. He started in 12th and through the first 100 laps I would estimate his average running position was around 15th. His race went downhill on lap 135 while he was running around 18th. What happened is that AJ Allmendinger had contact with him which led to Biffle getting into the wall and getting heavy damage. When the checkered flag waved he finished 38th. Last fall he finished 9th but that was his first top ten here in six races. Also in that race he earned the 10th best driver rating and had an 11th place average running position. In spring 2013 at the Monster Mile he was very mediocre. He started in 19th, had a 21st place average running position and finished 15th. In fall 2012 he started in 6th and finished 16th. In the race he performed better than his result. He was a driver who got burned by the caution during the pit cycle and then later in the event on lap #194 he had a tire issue while running in 12th. In spring 2012 he finished 11th and had a 13th place average running position. In 24 races at Dover he has 2 wins and a 13.4 average running position. (Yahoo B Driver)

Marcos Ambrose – Marcos Ambrose’s race in June is pretty easy to summarize. He started in 27th and through the 400 laps he slowly worked his way up to his 16th place finish. His Yahoo Race Chart will give you a pretty good idea about what I’m talking about. Also in the event he had a 19th place average running position and earned the 21st best driver rating. His 16th place finish in June marked his 4th straight result between 16th and 19th. Last fall he finished 16th but until about 60 laps to go he never ran higher than 20th. In the event he started in 24th and had a 21st place average running position. There was nothing special about his performance in June 2013. In that race he started in 30th, had a 25th place average running position and finished 19th. In September 2012 he had a pretty similar performance and finished 18th. In the three Dover races prior to that he had results of 10th, 9th and 3rd. Yahoo B Driver)
