Why Joey Logano will/won’t win the championship
Why Joey Logano Will Win The Championship
Joey Logano will win the championship because he’s been an elite performer at 1.5 mile tracks this season. At tracks of this length in 2014 he’s scored the most points, has the most top fives, and has a series best 6.5 average finish. He’s also raced his way to victory lane twice this season on this track type.
One trait that’s been a strength of Logano’s on this track type this season is his ability to be fast over long runs. Homestead is a rather simple 1.5 mile track and it’s conducive for creating long green flag runs.
Another factor you have to like about Logano is the organization behind him. They know how to win championships and he’ll have Brad Keselowski aiding him as needed in the race. Keselowski owes him one for Talladega and I’m sure he’ll come into play somehow.
Why Joey Logano Won’t Win The Championship
Joey Logano’s Homestead record isn’t anything that can instill confidence. He’s only finished in the top ten once and has a 20.8 average finish. Luckily his only top ten came last season but an 8th place finish like he had in 2013 won’t win the championship.
Recently on the track Joey Logano has been running into problems. Both Texas and Phoenix weren’t incident free for him. He was able to rally to a decent result in both of those races but this is a winner’s take all race and you can’t win the championship when you have to overcome trouble on the track.
