Yahoo C List Fantasy NASCAR Preview – Atlanta
Regan Smith – Regan Smith will once again be driving the #41 in place of Kurt Busch at Atlanta. It’s not yet known if this team will continue to race or shut down so it might be wise to use him while it’s known he’s available. Smith has six races under his belt at Atlanta and he’s either finished in the teens or thirties. The good news about him is that in three of his last four races he’s finished between 14th and 17th. His most recent Atlanta race was in 2012 and in that event he finished 14th. In the Altanta Folds Of Honor QuikTrip 500 I think his likely fantasy value will be around the mid-teens to high-teens. Last year at Atlanta with Kurt Busch behind the wheel the #41 car was top ten good but finished 13th.

David Ragan – At Atlanta David Ragan will be driving the #18 in place of Kyle Busch. It’s been years since he was in competitive equipment so fantasy racers have to go back a little bit to find relevant information about him. In 2011 he was granted a release from Roush Fenway Racing so that’s where you want to start looking at his stats. Atlanta is David Ragan’s home track but it’s never been friendly to him. He finished 8th in 2008 but his other 11 finishes are all 19th or worse. This weekend I think he could potentially have mid-teens day. He’s taking this job so he can showcase his talent and I expect him to make the most of the opportunity.

Ty Dillon – On Sunday Ty Dillon will be attempting to make his 4th Sprint Cup start. Last season one of his two starts came here at Atlanta. In that event he was simply a mid-twenties driver. In the race he started in 29th, had a 27th place average running position and finished 25th. The highest he got in the running order was 24th. In 2012 in the Truck Series Ty Dillon won his first race here. In that event he started on the pole, had a third place average running position, earned the 2nd best driver rating and led 40 laps. In his second Sprint Cup race at Atlanta I would expect ever so slight improvement from how he performed a year ago.
Danica Patrick – Last year at Atlanta Danica Patrick finished 6th. I would say don’t get too excited about that and keep in mind that she got the free pass when the first caution came out. After she got back on the lead lap it appeared that she regrouped because she ran better. Over the final two-thirds of the race she typically ran mid-teens or better. Performance wise she likely had around an 11th place car at the end but was aided by favorable late cautions which helped her advance in the running order. In 2013 at Atlanta she started in 21st and finished 21st. Also in that event it should be noted she finished two laps down, had a 23rd place average running position and earned the 24th best driver rating. In 2012 Tony Stewart handpicked this race for her in a pre-rookie year start. In that event she finished in 29th, had a 33rd place average running position and earned the 31st best driver rating. Last year at 1.5 mile tracks she would come home with a respectable finish every now and then but her results were all across the board which make it hard to predict a good result.
Brett Moffitt – At Atlanta Brett Moffitt will be driving the #55 in place of Brian Vickers who is out due to health issues. In the Sprint Cup series Moffitt has seven races under his belt and his results are quite bad. To be honest there terrible. His best finish was a 22nd in his first start at Dover in spring 2014. All six of his other results are 34th or worse. Last season he raced at 5 high-speed intermediate tracks and between the events he had a 36.8 average finish and a 38.6 average running position. Last year Moffitt competed at Atlanta and it wasn’t pretty. He started in 35th, ran as high as 33rd and finished 34th.
