Yahoo C List Fantasy NASCAR Preview – Las Vegas
Regan Smith – Who knows how long Regan Smith will remain a viable option in Yahoo Fantasy Racing’s C list. News came out earlier this week that Kurt Busch has agreed to terms with NASCAR for making a return to Sprint Cup competition. Since Yahoo is an allocation based game you have to get the most out of him while he’s available. I’m sure Kurt Busch’s “road to recovery” will be shorter than it is for those who used banned substances. In Regan Smith’s two races for SHR this year he’s come home with results of 16th (Daytona) and 17th (Atlanta). In Regan Smith’s last three races at Las Vegas where he wasn’t sidelined by an engine failure his average finish is 18.3. His most recent Vegas start was in 2012 and in that event he finished 15th.

David Ragan – Much like Regan Smith we don’t know how long David Ragan will be a viable option. Kyle Busch is sidelined indefinitely but he’ll be back at some point in the future. Playing “internet doctor” I think there’s a zero percent chance we’ll see Busch back before the All-Star race. I think there’s a good chance he’ll be gone even longer than that. Last week at Atlanta in the #18 Ragan had a quality race for a substitute driver. In that event he started in 17th, had an 18th place average running position and finished 18th. I would look for him to have a similar result at Las Vegas in the Kobalt Tools 400.

Ryan Blaney – Ryan Blaney should be considered for a spot on your Yahoo C List Fantasy NASCAR roster at Las Vegas. He’s a talented driver and he’s in good equipment. The #21 is no longer Roush Fenway Racing affiliated, now their supplied from Penske Racing and are in many ways a third car for the organization. At intermediate tracks in NASCAR’s top series he only has one start. Last spring in a third Penske car he finished 27th at Kansas. This weekend I think he can probably compete for a high teen’s result. Last year in the lower series when he raced for Penske he finished in the top ten in 13 of his 14 starts.
Danica Patrick – At Las Vegas Danica Patrick has two starts under her belt and has a 27.0 average finish. In her first race she looked lost finishing six laps down in 33rd. Also in that event she had a 34th place average running position and earned the 34th best driver rating. Last year she ran better but it was nothing to get excited about. She started in 22nd, finished 21st, earned the 26th best driver rating and had a 27th place average running position. In the first half of the event she looked like a low thirties driver but in the second half she ran better. In 2015 I expect Danica Patrick to improve a little bit more. On high-speed intermediate tracks last year from Michigan #2 to Homestead minus Texas (had problems) she had a 17.2 average finish and had a result in the top twenty in five of the six races. At Atlanta last week Danica Patrick finished 16th and had a 20th place average running position.
