Aric Almirola started in the rear of the field in a backup car.
Juan Pablo Montoya drove a third Penske Racing entry (#12)

Indy Race Notes
Kevin Harvick won the pole and choose to start in the inside lane. He led the first lap.
Tony Stewart lost several positions during the opening lap and went from 6th to 10th.
On lap #2 on the front straightaway Jeff Gordon passed Kevin Harvick for the lead. Jeff Gordon was really happy with his car.
On lap 4 Stewart was back to 12th.

Juan Pablo Montoya started in 8th and was in 18th on lap 13.
On lap 19 Jeff Gordon had nearly a three second lead over Kevin Harvick.

During the competition caution on lap 20 Joey Logano was the only driver who elected not to pit.
During the restart following the competition caution Jeff Gordon lost a number of positions.

Big Moment: On lap 32 Paul Menard got into the wall hard while running around 21st. Also on that lap Joey Logano came to pit road. Joey Logano was happy with his car.
On lap 34 more cars came down pit road because it worked well for the fuel strategy they planed to employ (essentially Keselowksi and some JGR cars). This pit cycle lasted for almost 20 laps.
During Jeff Gordon’s pit stop during the lap 30’s he only got one can of fuel in his car because his fuel man slipped.

On lap 56 Denny Hamlin pitted and it concluded the pit cycle. Hamlin said he had a great race car. He also had good fuel mileage.
Brad Keselwoski was in 18th on lap 61. His car was extremely tight. His right side back bumper got damaged on pit road earlier and it slowed him down.
During pit stops around lap 66 Jeff Gordon had a slow pit stop when one of his crew members had problems changing his front tires.
Big Moment: On lap 68 Danica Patrick was running in 13th but when she left her pit stall she broke her rear axle. Her problem happened in the middle of a pit cycle.
