Watkins Glen Cheez-It 355 Fantasy NASCAR Front Runner Rankings
Dale Earnhardt Jr. – I don’t know what happened to Dale Earnhardt Jr. but he’s suddenly become a very capable road course driver. Over the last three races on this track type he’s scored the 2nd most points and has a 7.0 average finish. Last year at the Glen he was very competitive and was better than his 11th place result. He was potentially top five good but an unfavorable caution in the second half of the event shuffled him from 2nd back to about 20th. Also in the race it should be noted he earned the 5th best driver rating and had a 9th place average running position. In 2013 he was having a low teen’s performance but was caught up in the carnage of the Kasey Kahne wreck. In the last segment of the race following the Almirola caution he ran 14th or better until the wreck with 9 laps to go. In 2012 he performed much better than his 28th place finish. With 7 laps to go he while he was running in 10th he spun. Then to ensure an even worse finish he pitted with 5 to go. Earlier this season at Sonoma Earnhardt Jr. finished 7th. (Yahoo A Driver)

Matt Kenseth – Matt Kenseth has been a steady performer at Watkins Glen. His overall average finish is 15.1 and since 2007 he’s only finished outside of 8th and 14th once. Last year he ran well and had one of his best Watkins Glen races. He started 8th, had an 8th place average running position and finished 9th. In 2013 he had his lone result outside of the range mentioned. He had a solid afternoon and performed better than his misleading 23rd place finish. The reason for the lack luster result is that he damaged his car with 9 laps to go when he spun Kasey Kahne. At the time of the incident he was running around 10th. Also in that race he started 10th, had a 13th place average running position and earned the 14th best driver rating. In 2012 he was unusually racy. He started in 24th and finished 8th. Jamie McMurray – Jamie McMurray is a capable road course driver who he shouldn’t be overlooked. At Watkins Glen since 2010 minus a 2012 accident he has a 9.0 average starting position, 12.8 average running position and a 12th place average finish. Also over this select stretch of events he has the 8th best driver rating. Last year he had a solid race where he started in 14th and finished 14th. Performance wise I thought he was better than his result. Late in the race while he was running around 9th he came down pit road and a lot of other drivers didn’t which dropped him to about 20th. Also in the race it should be noted that he earned the 9th best driver rating and had a 12th place average running position. In 2013 he had a solid afternoon. He started 6th, had an 11th place average running position and finished 11th. Throughout the race he consistently ran within a few positions of his average running position. In 2012 he looked good but had problems early. On lap #26 he was running in 7th but something on his car broke and he hit the wall hard. In his career at Watkins Glen he’s finished 14th or better 50% percent of the time. At Sonoma earlier this year he ran well and finished 11th. Over the last three road course races McMurray has scored the 5th most points. (Yahoo B Driver)
