Yahoo C List Fantasy NASCAR Preview – Talladega CampingWorld 500
Ryan Blaney – Ryan Blaney had a strong showing at Talladega this spring. He started 3rd, finished 4th and earned the 4th best driver rating. The end of the race was single file and he stayed in line so he was able to earn his good result rather easily. Last fall he raced here in a third Penske car and finished 22nd. In that race he started 4th and led 16 laps. Earlier this year at Daytona he looked respectable but finished 39th after an engine failure. In this race look for him to take on a “support role” for his teammates.
David Ragan – David Ragan can’t be overlooked at restrictor plate tracks. The best performances in his career have come on this track type. On Sunday I think he’ll definitely be a driver to watch especially in MWR equipment. Clint Bowyer always runs well here and in his one race on this track type in the #55 car he finished 12th at Daytona. Recently at Talladega Ragan has had some tough luck. This spring he was caught up in the early “Big One” which caused him to finish 38th. Last year at Talladega he had a dismal season and had results of 30th and 35th. In the four Talladega races prior to that he had four straight top seven results. In 2013 Ragan teamed up with David Gilliland on the final lap and they pulled off a 1-2 finish.

Danica Patrick – Talladega hasn’t been a great track for Danica Patrick. Her average finish is 25.6 and her best result is 19th. This spring she had an OK race. She finished 21st, earned the 21st best driver rating and had a 20th place average running position. At the end it looked like she would finish 28th but she benefited from the late attrition. Last fall at the end of the race she ran up front (led 7 laps late) and looked like a serious contender to win. If it wasn’t for the late caution during the pit cycle which scrambled up the running order she likely would’ve finished better than 19th (The Big Moment). In spring 2014 she looked good early. She started in 7th and drove up to the lead and paced the field for 6 laps. When the checkered flag waved she finished 22nd. In 2013 at Talladega she finished 33rd twice.
Landon Cassill – Last year at plate tracks Landon Cassill was the sleeper pick people were looking for. In 2014 at these venues he scored the 7th most points and had a 14.5 average finish. He performed way above his career statistics. This spring he burned people and finished 39th. He showed potential but was a victim in the “Trevor Bayne Big One”. At the time of the incident he was running around 12th. To give you a better idea about his level of performance here’s a link to his Yahoo Race Chart. Last year at Talladega he recorded finishes of 4th and 11th. His overall Talladega average finish is 24.9. At Daytona this year he had results of 13th and 43rd.
David Gilliland – David Ragan has sleeper value at Talladega but he’s also a volatile option. If your planning on picking him at some point this is the place to do it. Talladega is home to his best top 5, top 10, top 15 and top 20 finish percentages. This spring at Talladega he started deep in the field and finished 20th. In the race he benefited from some of the carnage at the end and finished 20th. Last year at Talladega he had a disastrous year. In fall 2014 he never ran near the front except during brief points of pit cycles. Over the last 120 laps about the closest he got to the front was 23rd. When the checkered flag waved he finished 29th. In spring 2014 he had engine problems and finished 40th. In 2013 at this “Wild Card” track he swept the top ten. He finished 7th in the fall and in the spring he finished 2nd behind his teammate David Ragan. In 2012 he had results of 13th and 15th. At Daytona this year he has results of 11th and 40th.
Justin Allgaier – Justin Allgaier has been consistent at Talladega. In his three races he’s started in the thirties every race, and has finished in the twenties every race. His average starting position is 36th, and his average finish position is 24.7. This spring he had his best result and finished 23rd. For much of the race he ran in the twenties but I will note his result is slightly inflated by the last lap carnage. Before the wrecks on the final lap he was running in 29th. Last fall due to a qualifying snafu he missed the race. In his other two Talladega starts he has finishes of 24th and 27th. At Daytona this year he had results of 18th and 37th.
