Homestead Ford EcoBoost 400 Fantasy NASCAR Top Tier Elite Picks
Kevin Harvick – Kevin Harvick will be a good fantasy NASCAR pick to win at Homestead. It’s a great track for him and he’s the defending champion. At Homestead Harvick has been very consistent and currently has 7 consecutive top tens. Since 2009 at Homestead Harvick has the best driver rating and the best average finish (5.5). Last year at Homestead he had a great car and had a clutch performance. In the race he finished 1st, earned the 2nd best driver rating, had a 3rd place average running position and led 54 laps. At the end of the race his car was at it’s best. One strength that should be noted about his car is that he was fast no matter what lane he drove. In 2013 performed well finishing 10th and leading 8 laps. In the race his car was stronger than what statistics will tell you. His afternoon wasn’t without adversity. In the middle portion of the race he struggled and was forced to short pit under green. It was speculated his problem was that his tires were on backwards. In 2012 Harvick started in 23rd and finished 8th. His next four most recent Homestead results are 8th, 3rd, 3rd and 2nd. This season at 1.5 mile tracks Harvick has been a very strong performer. For the year at these venues he has the best driver rating, is tied for the most top fives and has finished in the top ten in every race he’s avoided problems. (Yahoo A Driver)

Jeff Gordon – The “Drive For Five” is very well alive on Sunday. Homestead has been a great track for Jeff Gordon. He’s a former champion and in 7 of the last 8 races he’s finished in the top 11. Currently he has four consecutive top tens. Over the last four Homestead races Gordon has the best driver rating, best average running position (5.8) and is tied for second best average finish (6.8). Last year at Homestead Jeff Gordon had a great car and was the driver to beat. He started on the pole, earned the best driver rating, best average running position (2nd), led the most laps (161) and finished 10th. That result deserves an asterisk mark because in no way was he that bad. That result can be attributed to poor pit strategy. During a late caution with 20 laps to go he choose not to pit and nearly everyone else did. Then with 14 laps to go another caution came out and he choose to pit essentially by himself which dropped him deep in the running order. In 2013 at Homestead Jeff Gordon had a good performance. He earned the 8th best driver rating, had an 8th place average running position and finished 11th. In 2012 Jeff Gordon had enough fuel to go the distance and emerged victorious in the season finale. In that race he was top five good but if it didn’t come down to fuel mileage there was no chance he was going to win. In that event he started in 15th, had a 7th place average running position and earned the 4th best driver rating. In the last three races at 1.5 mile tracks Gordon has a 9.0 average finish and has scored the 6th most points. Chicagoland is the most similar track visited recently and he was very competitive there. (Yahoo A Driver)

Joey Logano – Joey Logano has been a fantasy ace at 1.5 mile tracks in 2015. For the season at these venues minus Texas #2 where he had his early trouble he has a 5.1 average finish, 5.2 average running position, led the most laps and scored the most points in the series. In the two races at tracks of this length prior to Texas Joey Logano went to victory lane. Homestead hasn’t historically been one of Logano’s better tracks and in the last four races he has 1 top ten and 3 results in the teens. Last fall Logano had a great car but finished 16th. That result doesn’t represent his level of performance. Strength wise I thought he was top five good but his pit crew buckled under the pressure late. His first issue came with 44 laps to go. At that time he was running in 5th but his crew dropped a lug nut and it dropped him to 11th. Then during a late caution with 20 laps to go during a pit stop his car fell off the jack and that really plummeted him in the running order. From the race last year it should be noted he had a 6th place average running position and earned the 6th best driver rating. In 2013 Logano had his best race at Homestead. He started 3rd, finished 8th, had a 9th place average running position and earned the 9th best driver rating. He was never a threat to win but he did consistently run in the top ten. In 2012 at Homestead he made his final start for JGR. He won the pole but due to a practice wreck he had to start in the back of the field. In that event he finished 14th and had a 17th place average running position. (Yahoo A Driver)
