Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Homestead
Homestead is the season finale but that doesn’t mean everybody gets to coast into a 3 month vacation happy. Just like normal incidents happen in races which lead to misleading results. Below are drivers who walked away with an asterisk mark result last year in the season finale.
Jeff Gordon – Jeff Gordon had the best car at Homestead in 2014. He earned the #1 position in our PROS Rankings but crossed the finish line in 10th. That result is misleading and is the product of poor pit strategy at the end. During one round of late pit stops he choose not to pit when nearly everyone else pitted and then during the next caution he pitted when nearly everyone else stayed out.
Jamie McMurray – Jamie McMurray finished 5th at Homestead last year but in no way was he that good. That result is the product of him using pit strategy at the end. Realistically he was probably about 20th place good. Here’s a link to his Yahoo Race Chart for reference.
Kyle Busch – Kyle Busch had a strong car at Homestead last year but crossed the finish line in 39th. On lap 117 under yellow while he was running in 5th he broke his rear axle on pit road and that led to him going to the garage area.
