Phoenix Good Sam 500 NASCAR Practice #1 Notes

Kevin Harvick – Using the same chassis he won with last spring, and finished 2nd with last fall. This week he’s said to be healthy. Focused on race runs early. His car was very good.

Joey Logano – Started in race trim and showed good speed. Appears to have a strong car. Said his car was pretty decent. Last fall he feels like his team closed the gap on Harvick. Said he has good speed in race trim. Feels good about his car.

Brian Scott – Early in practice he reported that it doesn’t feel like he has any right rear lateral grip. Later he said he wants more security getting into the center.

Kurt Busch – Early in practice he said, “Loose and twitchy on entry and exit, numb and tight in the center.” Tested here with the new tire last fall. Ended the session at the top of the speed chart.

Jimmie Johnson – Focused on qualifying trim exclusively this session. Crew chief Chad Knaus was pleased with how the #48 performed.
