Kansas Fantasy NASCAR Front Runner Rankings
Austin Dillon – Austin Dillon should be on your fantasy radar at Kansas. Last fall he ran extremely well and there’s not a more misleading result than his 41st place finish. In that event he started in 25th and raced up through the field without much difficulty. Unfortunately his race wasn’t incident free. On lap 155 while he was running in 5th he had a tire go down and nailed the wall. If his race would’ve been problem free I see no reason why he couldn’t finish in the top five. Last spring Dillon didn’t have a good race. He finished 22nd but that’s better than he ran for most of the event. For about the first 200 laps he typically ran in the high-twenties to the low-thirties. Over the final 60 laps he advanced in the running order up from 30th to his result. In addition to finishing 22nd he also earned the 26th best driver rating and had a 26th place average running position. In fall 2014 Austin Dillon ran very well. He started 16th, had an 11th place average running position and finished 8th. From lap 100 to the conclusion he typically ran between 7th and 13th. In his two Kansas races prior to that he finished where he started (19th and 26th). This year at 1.5 mile tracks Dillon has scored the 10th most points and has an 11.7 average finish. Kasey Kahne – Kasey Kahne has had some good performances at Kansas on the current configuration. In 4 of the 7 races he’s finished in the top 4. Last fall he had a strong performance. He started 24th, had an 11th place average running position and finished 4th. In the race he was a steady performer who continually moved forward. Last spring he had about a 10th place car but finished 17th after plummeting in the running order because of the late caution. If the caution didn’t come out he likely would’ve finished 9th. Also in the race it should be noted he had a 10th place average running position and earned the 10th best driver rating. In fall 2014 he walked away with an asterisk mark 22nd place finish. In the race he started in 10th and looked like he had top five potential. Unfortunately his race wasn’t incident free. With 38 laps to go while he was running in 3rd he was on pit road because he thought he had a tire going down. Shortly after that Biffle brought out the caution when he got into the wall. After that Kahne took the wave around. With 18 laps to go Kahne’s race went downhill when he pancaked his left side into the wall. When the checkered flag waved he finished 22nd. In spring 2014 he had a very strong showing. Outside of Jeff Gordon and Kevin Harvick he had one of the best cars. In the race he finished 3rd, earned the 4th best driver rating and had an 8th place average running position. Also in the race he paced the field for 22 laps. In the last two races at 1.5 mile tracks this season Kahne has come home with results of 8th and 10th. (Yahoo B Driver)
Denny Hamlin – Denny Hamlin has been very competitive in the last three Kansas races. Last fall he started 5th, finished 2nd, earned the 6th best driver rating and had a 9th place average running position. His car was very strong and at the end of the race when it was time to get up on the wheel he was very racy. In May 2015 he had about a 10th place car but his race wasn’t incident free. It started unraveling shortly after a restart with 67 laps to go. Things were getting wild on the track and he got into the wall hard which led to him coming down pit road. Prior to getting into the wall he was running in 10th. A little while later with 60 laps to go he had a cut tire and totaled his car which led to his 41st place finish. In fall 2014 he got his first top ten on the current Kansas layout. He started 25th, had a 13th place average running position, earned the 11th best driver rating and finished 7th. This year at 1.5 mile tracks I think the #11 team has been doing a lot of experimenting. In all three races on this track type he’s finished between 12th and 19th. (Yahoo A Driver)
