Pocono Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions
Tony Stewart – Tony Stewart has dark horse potential. Pocono is one of those tracks where I think he’s capable of performing better than his norm. At Pocono horse power is key and the #14 isn’t lacking those under the hood. In his career at Pocono Stewart has two wins and has finished in the top ten 68% percent of the time. Last August Stewart had a solid showing but I will note his finish is slightly inflated by fuel mileage at the end. In that event he finished 9th, had a 15th place average running position and earned the 16th best driver rating. In spring 2015 he didn’t have a strong showing. He finished 21st, had a 20th place average running position and earned the 20th best driver rating. Nothing notable happened to him in the race, he just wasn’t good. In August 2014 Stewart was likely teens good but was caught up in the “Big One” which led to his 36th place finish. In June 2014 he had a very strong car but took himself out of contention. In the race he started in 12th, earned the 7th best driver rating and led 24 laps. His downfall in the race came around lap 118 when he got busted speeding on pit road. At the time of that incident he was leading and it sent him to the back of the field. That was a pretty big problem with only about 40 laps to go so that makes his 13th place finish respectable. In the five Pocono races prior to that he finished in the top 11. (Yahoo B Driver)

Aric Almirola – A typical good day for Aric Almirola at Pocono has been a result between 18th and 22nd. In 5 of the last 7 races at the “Tricky Triangle” he’s finished within that range. Last August he had a result within that range and tied his career best finish of 18th. Also in that race he started 21st, had a 21st place average running position and earned the 23rd best driver rating. He was likely going to finish 21st but he benefited when competitors started running out of fuel at the end. Last June nobody had a shorter race than him. On lap 80 it was reported that he had engine problems and on lap 88 he was on pit road with his hood popped up. After that he completed no more laps and finished 43rd as a result. Performance wise in the race he was probably about mid-twenties good. In August 2014 he didn’t run well and was a victim of the lap 117 “Big One.” When the checkered flag waved he finished 35 laps down in 35th. In the four Pocono races leading up to that event he was consistent and finished between 18th and 22nd every race. In June 2014 he started in 22nd, had a 22nd place average running position, finished 22nd and earned the 22nd best driver rating. (Yahoo B Driver)
