Michigan Fantasy NASCAR Top Tier Elite Picks
Kevin Harvick – Kevin Harvick is a Michigan fantasy NASCAR ace who’ll be tough to beat. It’s a great track for him and in 5 of the last 6 races he’s finished 2nd. Over this stretch minus spring 2015 he has the 2nd best driver rating, second best average running position (6.2) and has led 78 laps. Last August when the high-down force rules package was used he ran well finishing 2nd and leading 15 laps. In spring 2015 he had his lone result not in 2nd over the last six races. In that race I thought he had the best car but he lost the race on pit road when he had valve stem issues that led to a flat tire. Prior to that issue he was the leader and had a 4.6 second lead. Also in the race he started 2nd, earned the 2nd best driver rating, led 63 laps and ran the most fast laps (17). He clearly had the best car but that issue on lap 122 shortly before the rain started falling ruined his afternoon and led to him finishing one lap down in 29th. In August 2014 he had one of the best cars throughout the event. He finished 2nd, earned the 3rd best driver rating and had a 4th place average running position. In June 2014 Harvick had the best car but his pit strategy at the end was inferior which led to a runner-up result. In that event he started on the pole, earned the best driver rating, led the most laps (63) and had a 4th place average running position. In 2013 Harvick had a pair of runner-up finishes. This season at high-speed intermediate tracks Harvick has been strong. He finished runner-up at both Kansas and Auto Club, I view those two venues as having the highest correlation to Michigan. Charlotte is the last high-speed intermediate track visited and he also finished 2nd there. (Yahoo A Driver)

Joey Logano – Joey Logano should be on your short list of favorites at Michigan. He’s a past champion and since he’s driven the #22 he belongs in the conversation of being the best driver at Michigan. Since 2013 in the #22 car at MIS he’s finished in the top ten every race, has the best average finish (5.7), led the most laps, has the second best average running position (6.8) and the second best driver rating. Last August he had a quiet race and finished 7th. In spring 2015 he had an OK car and finished 5th mostly due to pit strategy. In the race he made a huge mistake when on lap 95 he ran out of gas on the back stretch and had to coast back to pit road. In August 2014 he had a great car and was Jeff Gordon’s main competitor. He started 2nd, earned the 2nd best driver rating, had a 3rd place average running position and finished 3rd. Also in the race it should be noted he led the most laps (86). In June 2014 he had a very strong performance. He started 9th, finished 9th, had a 6th place average running position, earned the 3rd best driver rating and led 29 laps. In the race he performed better than his result. He was a top five performer but his pit strategy at the end cost him some positions. In August 2013 Logano raced his way to victory lane. In addition to finishing first he started 1st, had a 4th place average running position, led 51 laps and earned the best driver rating. This year at intermediate tracks Logano has ran well. He finished 4th at Auto Club and had top five potential at Kansas until he wrecked late. (Yahoo A Driver)
Matt Kenseth – Matt Kenseth will be a factor at Michigan. In 33 races he has 3 wins, 14 top fives and 20 top tens. In 85% percent of his starts he’s finished in the top fifteen. This year at high-speed intermediate tracks Matt Kenseth has ranked as one of the best but he’s had a ton of problems. One of his incident free races was at Kansas. I view that as a mini-Michigan and at that venue he finished 4th this spring. Last August at Michigan when the high-down force package was used Kenseth put on a display of domination winning from the pole and leading 146 laps. Since the rules package that will be used Sunday is radically different its not the most relevant for fantasy purposes. Last June he had a strong showing. He earned the best driver rating, had a 6th place average running position and finished 4th. Performance wise he probably had the next best car after Harvick but pit strategy cost him positions at the end. In August 2014 he had a disappointing afternoon and was caught up in the carnage of the “Big One” and finished 38th. In the two MIS races prior to that he finished 14th and 15th. Heading into Michigan Kenseth has 4 straight top tens. (Yahoo A Driver)
