Pocono Race Notes

Brad Keselowski won the pole and selected the outside lane. He didn’t get off to a good start because of the air pressure he had in his tires. On lap 2 he was back to 4th.

Joey Logano started on the inside lane and he jumped to an early lead. He led the opening 17 laps. He had a 1.5 second lead on lap 4.

On lap 4 Matt DiBenedetto who was running in 34th spun and brought out the first caution. He didn’t get any damage.

During the lap 6 restart Harvick went from 4th to 9th.

Around lap 10 Brad Keselowski’s car was much better and he was up to 2nd.

On lap 11 Chase Elliott said his car was great off turn 3. He liked his car. He was in 10th at the time.

Tony Stewart had a brand new car and showed good speed. He was in 6th on lap 15.

When lap 15 was complete, the competition caution came out.

During the first round of pit stops Newman took two tires and climbed up 13 positions into the top ten.

During the first round of pit stops Kyle Larson and Greg Biffle didn’t stop which got them up to 1st and 2nd.

Big Moment: During the first round of pit stops Kevin Harvick and Kasey Kahne both got speeding penalties.

Big Moment: During the first round of pit stops Martin Truex Jr. made two pit stops because his splitter was hitting the track. During that round of pit stops Matt DiBenedetto had hard contact with him on pit road. He was no longer competitive after that.

Notable moment: On lap 22 Brian Scott spun. He got some right rear damage. When he spun he said his car was stuck between gears.

Big Moment: Following the Brian Scott caution Brad Keselowski was called to pit road for improper body modification. It dropped him back to 39th. Beyond having to fix his problem NASCAR forced him to serve a drive through penalty when the race went back to green.

Big Moment: Joey Logano had contact with Newman during the restart of the Scott caution on lap 22. It dropped him back about +10 positions.

Around lap 30 Danica Patrick started to complain about her brakes.

Kasey Kahne really like his car on lap 40. He was in 15th despite getting his speeding penalty.

Chase Elliott really liked his car. On lap 41 he was in 2nd.

Kurt Busch said his car was pretty good on lap 50.

On lap 50 Kevin Harvick had one of the fastest cars on the track and was running inside the top ten again. His car was faster than the leader.

Notable Moment: On lap 59 Matt DiBenedetto spun and brought out the caution. This was during the pit cycle and it hurt Kevin Harvick dropping him back a few positions. Clint Bowyer got the free pass during this caution.

Shortly after a restart on lap 66 Chase Elliott passed Matt Kenseth for the lead. He then led the next 21 laps.

Big Moment: Around lap 87 Paul Menard pitted under green because of a flat tire. He had a broken brake rotor and then drove his car to the garage.
