Chicagoland Race Notes
Kevin Harvick started on the pole and selected the bottom lane. He led the opening 5 laps until losing the race off pit road.
Notable Moment: On lap 2 Denny Hamlin and AJ Allmendinger both spun. Neither got any notable damage. Hamlin was racing aggressively early because he started in 29th. Hamlin had a flat tire and creeped around the track very slowly. Since he didn’t pit the first time by he went down a lap because of the incident.
On lap 7 during a restart Martin Truex Jr. rocketed to the lead. He then led the next 39 laps.
Austin Dillon had a very good car. He was in 2nd on lap 12. In practice sessions leading up to the race he looked impressive. He really focused on running near the bottom of the track.

On lap 15 Kevin Harvick moved to the top lane and gained tremendous speed. Him and Truex Jr. were racing each other hard for the lead.

Kyle Busch felt very confident about his long run speed. On lap 32 he passed Kevin Harvick for 2nd.
On lap 46 Kyle Busch passed Martin Truex Jr. for the lead. He then went on to lead the next 83 laps.

Notable Moment: During green flag pit stops under green around lap 54 Carl Edwards got a speeding penalty. Prior to his penalty he was in the mid-teens. It dropped him a lap down. At this point in the race only 22 cars were on the lead lap.

On lap 70 Paul Menard went a lap down. He was running in 20th at the time.
On lap 73 Brad Keselowski didn’t like his car. He told his crew chief his car was miserable and nothing was working. He was in 13th at the time.

On lap 113 Carl Edwards ran out of fuel and came to pit road. This dropped him down to 25th, almost 2 laps down.
On lap 123 the caution came out for debris. This was only the second caution of the race. Because of the quick pace set by Kyle Busch only 13 cars were on the lead lap at the time. It was 116 laps of green flag racing. The lucky dog recipient was Kyle Larson who was in 14th. Carl Edwards took the wave around.
Big Moment: On lap 130 shortly after restart Austin Dillon had a flat tire and got into the wall hard. Prior to his problem he was running in 10th.
Following the Dillon caution not many leaders pitted. Some notables who did though were Truex, Keselowski, Logano, Edwards and Kenseth.
Big Moment: On lap 135 during a restart while battling 3 wide for the lead Kevin Harvick and Jimmie Johnson had contact. Harvick’s car started smoking.

Big Moment: On lap 138 Kevin Harvick had a flat tire and backed his car into the wall. He then immediately went to the garage area.
