Sonoma Fantasy NASCAR Front Runner Rankings
Kasey Kahne – Kasey Kahne will be a dark horse fantasy option at Sonoma. I don’t think he’ll be a popular pick, but he’s proven he can get the job done here. At Sonoma he’s a past winner who’s entering the race with a series high 4 straight top tens. Over this four race stretch he has a 7.3 average finish and the 7th best driver rating. One aspect I’ll note about him is that he’s a proven “Mover”. Over this four race stretch his finish position is on average +15.25 better than where he started. Last year Kahne had a solid showing at this west coast track. In the race he earned the 10th best driver rating, finished 9th and had a 13th place average running position. In 2015 he ran extremely well and overcame his 26th place starting position to finish 8th. In 2014 he started deeper in the field in 30th but was able to overcome that issue with a car that was fast over long runs and good pit strategy. When the checkered flag waved he finished 6th and earned the 8th best driver rating. In 2013 he also finished 6th. In that race he earned the 3rd best driver rating and had a 9th place average running position. In 2009 Kahne out raced Tony Stewart and went to victory lane. (Yahoo B Driver)

Jamie McMurray – Jamie McMurray has been one of the strongest performers week in and week out so hopefully that trend will continue. In recent races at Sonoma he really hasn’t had a high-level of success but he ranks in the top quarter of the series. Since 2013 at Sonoma his 14.3 average finish ranks as the 9th best. Over the last nine Sonoma races McMurray has seven finishes between 11th and 19th. Last year McMurray got a pit penalty and didn’t have a great race. In the event he finished 17th and earned the 18th best driver rating. In 2015 he had a solid afternoon. He finished 11th and earned the 10th best driver rating. In 2014 he had a great car. He started first, earned the best driver rating and finished 4th. Throughout the race he was a consistent front runner and his 5th place average running position ranked as the best. Last year at Watkins Glen McMurray finished 8th. (Yahoo B Driver)
Dale Earnhardt Jr. – Dale Earnhardt Jr. has become a very capable road course racer in recent seasons. They were once like kryptonite to him, but now he’s pretty good. Over the last four Sonoma races he has an 8.3 average finish, a 10.3 average running position, the 4th best driver rating and has finished in the top 12 every race. Last year he had a solid performance. He earned the 5th best driver rating, had an 8th place average running position and finished 11th. In 2015 he had a great car. He started 20th, had a 10th place average running position and finished 7th. In 2014 he was very fast over long runs and was one of the best. He finished 3rd, earned the 5th best driver rating and had an 11th place average running position. In that race he drove very aggressively and wrecked AJ Allmendinger and Matt Kenseth.
