Sonoma Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions

Paul Menard – Paul Menard might be worth a roll of the dice at Sonoma if you’re looking to take a risk. He’s performed very poorly on a weekly basis this season but at Sonoma he’s been a respectable performer. Over the last four Sonoma races his 12.0 average finish ranks as the 8th best. In three of the last four races at this west coast track he’s finished in the teen’s. Last year he had a 15th place average running position and finished 16th. In 2015 he didn’t run that well but he did finish 13th. In the race his average running position was 23rd and he only ran in the top fifteen about a quarter of the time. In 2014 he had his best Sonoma performance and crossed the finish line in 5th. Throughout the race his car looked strong and in addition to finishing 5th he also earned the 10th best driver rating and had a 13th place average running position. Daniel Suarez – Something tells me that Daniel Suarez might be able to sneak in a good result at Sonoma. It can play out as a “goofy” race and that’s good news for Suarez. Last year in the lower series at road courses Suarez finished 4th in two of the three races. With his team really clicking in recent weeks I wouldn’t be surprised if he could finish in the teen’s. Michael McDowell – Michael McDowell is regarded as a good road course racer and many people will speak of him highly. He does good in the Xfinity Series on this track type, but in the top series he’s an extremely risky prospect. His average finish at Sonoma is 29.6 and his average finish at Watkins Glen is an even worse 32.8. Last year he didn’t run well and his race ended with a rear gear problem that brought him to a halt on the track that led to his 39th place finish. Realistically he might’ve been around mid-twenties good. In 2015 he finished 34th. In the three races prior to that he had results of 24th, 30th and 21st. Last summer at Watkins Glen McDowell had his best finish on this track type and finished 17th. (Yahoo C Driver)
