Dale Earnhardt Jr. – 40 minutes into practice while he was 27th he was complaining of having no grip. “I don’t know where the rest of the speed is at. This is as fast as I can get it to go.” After some changes shortly after that he said, “It made the car way tighter and had less rear grip.” Ended the session 27th.
Jimmie Johnson – Following his opening run 20 minutes into practice that put him 4th on the speed chart his crew chief Chad Knaus said, “Solid, Jimmie, good job.” While he was in race trim during his last run before rain he completed 8 laps and ranked as the 10th fastest.

Ryan Newman – 45 minutes into practice while he was 15th after competing 20 laps it’s reported he was pretty happy with his balance and his lap times were solid.
Matt DiBenedetto – He was a driver who went out on the track early. He said his car is a bit tight but it should be good though. 45 minutes into practice he said his car won’t hold the bottom so his team went about making a lot of changes.
Ty Dillon – Early in practice he said, “Pretty good start there.” 30 minutes into practice he said changes didn’t help his cars grip. An hour into practice while he was 20th on the speed chart he said he’s still too loose.
