Paul Menard – Daniel Hemeric is practicing and qualifying his car today. “Baby watch” is over, Menard’s second child was born earlier this week. Since Menard won’t qualify his car it means he’ll have to start in the back.
Jimmie Johnson – Had some sort of fuel pressure problem. Replaced his fuel pumps and fuel cell. 40 minutes into practice his team was still having the same problem after they thought they fixed it. With about 12 minutes remaining he got out on the track and was able to start practicing. Only ran 3 laps.
Chase Elliott – Had a fast car in race trim and was 4th on the speed chart 20 minutes into practice. Following his run he reported that his car handles well. Ran 21 laps in race trim before going to qualifying trim.
Denny Hamlin – Started in race trim to get a good feel for his race day setup. Had pretty good speed.
Aric Almirola – Started with a short run in race trim that put him 15th on the speed chart. He told his team he needs more overall grip and the car feels high.
