This weekend’s Monster Energy Cup Series racetrack has a new name but the racing surface is the same–for now. The series continues its west coast swing this week with the Ticket Guardian 500(k) at ISM Raceway, a.k.a. Phoenix. This is a 1-mile flat track that has seen Kevin Harvick absolutely dominate it over the last few years, but they’re going to be completely re-configuring it after this race, in an attempt to eliminate his advantage (just kidding, but seriously). That #4 Ford has already been to victory lane twice in 2018, will they be able to make it three in a row? Only time will tell. It was Ryan Newman and Matt Kenseth who went to victory lane in the two races at this track last season, but neither of those guys had the best cars in those races. Both came down to late-race moves, and Newman’s was a pit stop gamble. It’s very possible that we’ll see something similar here this weekend.
