The Fantasy NASCAR Low Tier – Daytona
Brendan Gaughan – Brendan Gaughan is worth a roll of the dice at Daytona. In 2017, Brendan Gaughan had results of 7th and 11th. In this years season opening Daytona 500 he almost snuck in another good result but he was caught up in the “Big One” with 2 laps to go. Two laps prior to wrecking he was running in 7th.
Matt DiBenedetto – Matt DiBenedetto has dark horse potential at Daytona. In this years “Great American Race” he had a great chance of sneaking in a top ten, but with two laps to go he was caught up in the “Big One” which led to his 27th place finish. Two laps prior to the wreck he was running in 6th. Last year he had a great season at Daytona. He finished 13th in July, and 9th in the Daytona 500. His 11.0 average finish between the combined events ranked as the 6th best.
Landon Cassill – Landon Cassill isn’t a bad low tier fantasy option at Daytona. Over his last five Daytona races minus summer 2016 he has a 17.75 average finish. In this years Daytona 500 he missed the race because he didn’t have a ride. In 2017 he finished in the teens twice and had results of 16th and 19th.
Ty Dillon – Ty Dillon has a 27.6 average finish at Daytona, but he’s capable of sneaking in a good result. In 4 of the last 6 races on this track type he’s finished between 11th and 16th. The bad news is that 3 of those good results were at Talladega. In this years Daytona 500 he had a tough race and finished 39th after wrecking during the final lap of Stage #1. One lap prior to wrecking he was in 15th. Last summer at Daytona he had his best race and in that event he finished 16th, had a 14th place average running position, earned the 13th best driver rating and led 7 laps. In last year’s Daytona 500 he showed potential but was caught up in a “Big One” that led to his 30th place finish. In the two Daytona 500’s prior to that he had results of 25th and 28th. At Talladega earlier this year he finished 15th.
Gray Gaulding – Gray Gaulding made his Daytona debut this year and he escaped with a 20 place finish. Attrition certainly helped him because finishing that well 3 laps down is pretty unusual. At Talladega, the other restrictor plate track on the schedule he finished 24th there this year. Last fall at that venue he had the best finish of his career and finished 9th. Picking Gray Gaulding is only for the bold, but if you feel like rolling the dice with him this is the weekend to do it.
