Watkins Glen Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions
Chris Buescher – Chris Buescher has dark horse potential. In the last two races on this track type he’s been respectable and has come home with results of 11th and 12th. For drivers in his tier that’s pretty good. Earlier this year at Sonoma he finished 12th. Last summer, Buescher ran well at Watkins Glen. When the race reached its conclusion he finished 11th, earned the 14th best driver rating and had a 15th place average running position. In the two Watkins Glen races prior to that he finished 30th and 37th. For fantasy purposes I wouldn’t read into either of those two results.

Michael McDowell – Michael McDowell will be a dark horse option at Watkins Glen. I wouldn’t set the bar too high, but if you’re looking for a driver who’ll be mid-teens good and have potential to finish marginally better than I think he might be the driver for you. Over the last four road course races McDowell sports a 16.0 average finish and among drivers who competed in every race his driver rating ranks as the 11th best. Last year, McDowell had his best race at Watkins Glen. When the checkered flag waved he finished 12th, earned the 16th best driver rating and had a 17th place average running position. In the two Watkins Glen races prior to that he had results of 17th and 20th.
Matt Kenseth – Matt Kenseth has four straight top tens at Watkins Glen but now that he’s in the #6 car I’m setting the benchmark low. Realistically I think he’ll prove to be a mid to high-teens driver. I would lean more towards high-teens. At Watkins Glen, Kenseth has four straight top tens and since 2007 he’s only once finished worse than 14th. You have to love that level of consistency. Last year he had his best result and finished 2nd. In the three races prior to that he finished 10th, 4th and 9th.
