Atlanta NASCAR Practice #1 Notes
Denny Hamlin – Ran the most laps this session. When practice ended he was 5th after running 27 laps. 50 minutes into practice he was 12th after running 21 laps.
Kevin Harvick – 30 minutes into practice he said, “Every time I turn to the right the steering wheel locks up. It feels really heavy.” Only ran two laps and ended the session 29th. During the qualifying telecast it was mentioned that Kevin Harvick had power steering problems.
Erik Jones – Ran the most laps early in practice (10 laps, 20 minutes in). Most drivers near the start never ran more than 4. After logging those laps early he went to qualifying trim.
Alex Bowman – 35 minutes into practice while he was 17th after running 6 laps he reported his car was really loose.
Ty Dillon – Twenty minutes into practice he said, “Really tight. It needs some front grip.” Had a quick car in race trim and he was in 7th, 50 minutes into practice. Late in practice in qualifying trim he said, “The back was a little free there.”
