The Fantasy NASCAR Low Tier – Martinsville
Bubba Wallace – Bubba Wallace had a consistent season last year at Martinsville and finished 34th in both events. That certainly isn’t confidence inspiring. I will note in both races he had problems. Last fall he had some sort of issue around lap 365 and slowed on the track. He finished 12 laps down so I’ll assume it was a little more severe than a simple flat tire. I’ll note he probably wasn’t going to finish well anyways and was probably destined for a result in the 20’s if his race would’ve been incident free. Last spring he had a troubled track debut and also finished 34th. I will note his race wasn’t incident free. On lap 66 he had a flat tire and made an unexpected pit stop. Shortly before his problem he was running around 18th. That dropped him 2 laps down back to last (38th). Later it was revealed he broke his sway bar connector. If he has an incident free race I think he might reasonably prove to be a low to mid-twenties driver.

Landon Cassill – The fantasy ceiling is really low for Landon Cassill at Martinsville. Unless there’s an absurd amount of attrition or something really goofy happens I think he’s poised to be a high-twenties to low-thirties driver. Last year in his current ride he finished 32nd in the fall and had rear gear problems in the spring and finished 38th. In the six Martinsville races prior to that when he was in a slightly more competitive situation he finished in the twenties.
Ross Chastain – Ross Chastain finished 29th in both races last year at Martinsville. That’s not good, and I really don’t think he can do a whole lot better. Those are his only starts at “The Paper Clip.” On Sunday I would look for him to be a mid to high-twenties driver, and I would probably lean more towards the high-twenties.
Matt Tifft – Rookie, Matt Tifft is a risky prospect at Martinsville. He’s not in a competitive situation and he lacks seat time. At Martinsville he last raced here in 2016 and that afternoon in the Truck Series he finished 16th and had an 18th place average running position. In his other two Truck races at “The Paper Clip” he has results of 9th (2015) and 8th (2014). At Martinsville I’m not going to set the benchmark high for him and I think he’s likely a high-twenties driver.
