Richmond Fantasy NASCAR Front Runner Rankings
Jimmie Johnson – Richmond has been a great track for Jimmie Johnson and on Saturday night I would look for him to compete for a top ten. Yes, I said top ten. I know things haven’t been pretty for him on the track this year, but I don’t think he’s lost his touch at shorter-flat tracks. Phoenix is a similar track and this spring at that venue he finished 8th. At Richmond, Johnson has consistently performed well and over the last 9 races he’s finished in the top 11. Over the last five Richmond races his average finish is 8.8. Last fall, Johnson had a solid race. He finished 8th, had an 11th place average running position and earned the 11th best driver rating. In spring 2018, he finished 6th when the checkered flag waved. He didn’t run well for much of the race (19th place average running position), but he closed out strong. In fall 2017, Johnson had a good evening and came home with an 8th place finish. Additionally, he earned the 13th best driver rating and had a 14th place average running position. As the race went on his car got better and better. In the two Richmond races prior to that he had back to back 11th’s.

Daniel Suarez – Don’t overlook Daniel Suarez at Richmond. It’s been a good track for him and over his four starts his average finish is 11.5. In 3 of those 4 races he’s finished between 7th to 12th. Unfortunately, last fall he had his one result not within that range and when the checkered flag waved he finished 17th. From that race I’ll note he started 38th, had a 17th place average running position and earned the 21st best driver rating. Last spring at Richmond he had a better performance. He finished 10th and earned the 15th best driver rating. His race wasn’t incident free so that’s a really great result (got penalized during a green flag pit stop around lap 270 and was caught speeding while serving his penalty). In fall 2017 he had his best Richmond race and finished 7th. His other stats from the race aren’t great, but his finish is legitimate. In spring 2017 in his track debut he finished 12th.
Austin Dillon – At Richmond, Austin Dillon has typically been about 20th place good, but last year he bucked that trend and had his best season. Last fall he had his best Richmond performance by a wide margin and ran well throughout the race. When the checkered flag waved he finished 6th, earned the 9th best driver rating and had a 10th place average running position. Additionally, he finished 7th in Stage #2. Last spring he had his third best race at Richmond. In the race he finished 15th, had a 16th place average running position and earned the 16th best driver rating. In 2017 he was a low-twenties performer in both races That season he finished 21st in the fall and 20th in the spring. This spring at Phoenix, a similar track he didn’t run well and finished 21st.
