Kansas NASCAR Happy Hour Practice Notes
Kyle Larson – Started practice with a +25 lap run and had good speed. 20 minutes into practice his spotter said, “1 and 2 is phenomenal, even in traffic.” He practiced running the high-line. Spun right near the end of practice and got minimal damage. Had the 3rd best 15 and 20 lap averages.
Kevin Harvick – Started with a long run that put him at the top of the speed chart. His lap times late in a run were really good. Had the best 15 and 20 lap averages.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. – He was frustrated with his car 15 minutes into practice. Said he was losing downforce all over the car due to the bounciness. “I don’t have front turn off when running the top.” At the time of those comments he was 27th. 30 minutes into practice he said, “A little bit better, better than the first run. The front is still tight but the rear is edgy…I don’t know what the 9 was running around the top, but that’s about all I had.”
William Byron – 35 minutes into practice while he was 9th he said he was still fighting loose on the bottom. Late in practice he said his car was the best its been, just needs a bit more rear stability.
Chase Elliott – 15 minutes into practice he reported the handling of his car improved and was better than it was in first practice. “Little edgy at times, but ok.” At that time he was 3rd on the speed chart. 30 minutes into practice he told his team that they may be riding a bit too low when the car has low air pressures, really roughing it over the bumps early in a run. When he later went to qualifying trim he jumped up to 2nd.
