Jimmie Johnson who started on the pole led the opening 59 laps. He chose to start in the low-line.
Early in the race, Brad Keselowski was struggling.

Notable Moment: On lap 15, Erik Jones spun and brought out the first caution. He didn’t hit anything. He was running in 23rd at the time.
Notable Moment: During the first caution, Kyle Busch missed his pit stall.
Running order at the time of the restart for the Jones caution: 48,9,22,41,3,11,12,42,21,18
Jimmie Johnson was pretty happy with his car early in the race while he was leading. His car was turning really good.

Around lap 40, Corey LaJoie made a pit stop under green. It was likely unplanned.
Around lap 60, green flag pit stops begun. This was an extended pit cycle.
Notable Moment: Denny Hamlin was caught speeding green his green flag pit stop. He was running around the top 5 prior to the pit cycle.
Notable Moment: Alex Bowman got a pit cone violation during his green flag pit stop.
Notable Moment: Ryan Preece was out of gas on the last lap of the Stage. It resulted in him pitting early before pit road was open and it resulted in a penalty that put him in the rear of the field.
Stage #1 Top Ten Finishers (Lap 85): 22,48,9,3,12,21,41,18,42,37
Notable Moment: Before the race went back to green in Stage #2, Keselowski came to pit road because something broke under yellow. He eventually went to the garage for repair. It was some sort of issue with his rear end.
Early in Stage #2 on lap 89, Martin Truex Jr. got the lead. He then led the next 10 laps.
Running order early in Stage #2: 19,18,9,22,1,4,14,21,48
On lap 99, Kyle Busch took the lead. He then led the next 10 laps.
On lap 109, Chase Elliott passed Kyle Busch for the lead.

Big Moment: On lap 149, Kyle Larson slammed into the wall hard and it marked the end of his race. Prior to his problem before the extended green flag pit cycle begun he was running just short of the top ten. This was during a green flag pit cycle. Joey Logano is a notable driver who was burned by its timing. It dropped him a lap down but he immediately got the free pass.
During the Larson caution, both Jimmie Johnson and Joey Logano had jack problems during their pit stops which cost them positions.
Running order following pit stops for the Larson caution: 18,11,12,41,34,6,24,21
Shortly after the restart for the Logano caution he radioed his team and said it felt like his hood would pop up.

During the Stage #2 caution, both Denny Hamlin and Kevin Harvick got pit road penalties. Denny Hamlin was the leader at the time.
