Daytona 500 Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions
Ty Dillon – Ty Dillon is a quality dark horse pick at Daytona. Last year at superspeedways, Dillon ranked among the best on this track type and over the combined events he had three top tens and his 9.3 average finish ranked as the second best. At Daytona, Dillon has been strong and currently has three straight top six results, you can’t say that about anybody else in the series. In 2019, he was one of two drivers who swept the top ten and his 5.0 average finish over the combined events ranked as the best. Last summer at Daytona, Dillon avoided the mass carnage and finished 4th. A few laps prior to the “Big One” ensuing he was running in the high-teens. In last years Daytona 500 he had a 22nd place average running position, but came home with a 6th place finish. I’ll note he certainly benefited from the mass attrition because with 11 laps to go he was back in 25th. In July 2018 at Daytona he had his lone top ten of the season. When the checkered flag waved he finished 6th, earned the 6th best driver rating and had a 12th place average running position. Additionally, he finished 6th in Stage #2. In the 2018 Daytona 500, Dillon had a tough race and finished 39th after wrecking during the final lap of Stage #1. One lap prior to wrecking he was in 15th.

Christopher Bell – At superspeedways, I think Christopher Bell is capable of sneaking in a good result. Last season in the lower series on this track type he was very successful and finished in the top 6 in all three races. For the season he had results of 6th (Daytona), 3rd (Talladega) and 3rd (Daytona). Overall, on this track type in the Xfinity Series since 2018 minus Daytona February 2018 his average finish was 5.4. Last year at Daytona in the #95 with Matt DiBenedetto behind the wheel, this team finished 8th in the summer and in the Daytona 500 they led a race high 49 laps and easily looked top ten good before wrecking late. (DraftKings $6,700/ FanDuel $6,800)
Ross Chastain – If you’re looking to roll the dice with a low tier driver, Ross Chastain isn’t a bad option. In the 2020 Daytona 500, he certainly won’t be driving a low tier car. He’ll be driving a Chip Ganassi Racing prepared #77 Spire Motorsports entry. Last year at superspeedways, Chastain finished in the top twelve 50% percent of the time and had one good result at each track. At Daytona, Chastain has three races under his belt and his overall average finish is 20.3. Last summer, Chastain had problems and finished 30th. In last years Daytona 500, the attrition rate was apocalyptic and he escaped with a 10th place finish. In summer 2018 when Chastain made his track debut he finished 21st. In summer 2019 in the Xfinity Series at Daytona, Chastain led 49 laps and raced his way to victory lane. (DraftKings $6,900/ FanDuel $6,000)
