Charlotte Roval Race Notes
William Byron who won the pole selected to start in the inside line. He led the opening 21 laps.
Notable Moment: On lap 1, Alex Bowman who started in the back spun. He didn’t get any real notable damage. He came to pit road on lap 2. He remained on the lead lap.
Notable Moment: Martin Truex Jr. who started in the back missed the chicane on lap #1 and had to stop on the track as a penalty.
On lap 4, race leader William Byron had a 2.5 second lead.

Notable Moment: On lap 5, Bubba Wallace had to serve a pass thru penalty for missing the chicane on the opening lap.

Notable Moment: Around lap 11, Martin Truex Jr. missed the back chicane again.

Notable Moment: On lap 20, Ryan Preece wheel hopped in the chicane and it brought out a caution for some reason. He had no damage.
During the first caution, Byron, Larson, Logano, Bowyer, Blaney, Keselowski and Almirola stayed out. Just about everyone else came to pit road.
Big Moment: During the restart for the Preece caution, Jimmie Johnson, Erik Jones, Alex Bowman, Denny Hamlin, Kurt Busch and Chris Buescher were involved in an accident. This marked the end of Stage #1. All the drivers appeared to have light damage except for Erik Jones.
Stage #1 Top Ten Finishers (Lap 25): 42,24,14,22,12,2,10,4,9,41
Big Moment: During the Stage caution, Erik Jones went to the garage for damage repair. It marked the end of his race.
During the Stage caution, the drivers who stayed out late in Stage #1 all came to pit road except for Logano and Keselowski. Many of the other drivers stayed out.
During the Stage caution, Kyle Larson was penalized for his team pitting outside of their box. The penalty is being held for a lap.

On lap 31, Chase Elliott passed Joey Logano for the lead. Elliott then led the next 12 laps. Elliott clearly had the fastest car on the track at this time.

On lap 36, Corey LaJoie spun and no caution came out. He quickly recovered.
On lap 36, Joey Logano came to pit road for the first time.
Big Moment: Around lap 38 after Joey Logano returned to the track he hit a foam barrier and got damage. He then came back to pit road for repair.
Big Moment: On lap 42, Bubba Wallace spun after contact with Bowman. Wallace had contact with the wall. He was running in 15th at the time and it brought out a caution.
Quite a few drivers didn’t pit during the Wallace caution, but the front runners for the most part all came in.

On lap 48, Denny Hamlin had problems in the chicane and spun. He was able to get going again quickly.
