Dover Recap- Johnson wins
If you watched Dover, then you seen a lot of Jimmie Johnson. Johnson started on the pole and led 271 laps (68% percent of the race) and claimed his fourth victory of the season. Johnson now trails his teammate Mark Martin by 10 points in the 2009 Chase.
In the NASCAR news world this week expect to read about how no driver has ever won the championship if they won at Dover in the Chase. People just say things like this to make news (They also say every race is a wild card race!). They forgot that were talking about Jimmie Johnson, the reigning three time champion. The only team that can stop the 48 is themselves.
Mark Martin started 14th and drove his way to the front at the Monster Mile. Mark Martin had perhaps the only car that could challenge Johnson at the end of the race but unfortunately Martin’s car was awful on restarts and each time he lost a couple of positions until about 5 laps into a run when the 5 car got into their groove.
The only Chase driver to really have trouble at Dover was Denny Hamlin. Hamlin’s car was completely uncompetitive and he finished in 22nd position 2 laps down.
Here is where the Chase drivers finished
1. Jimmie Johnson
2. Mark Martin
4. Juan Pablo Montoya
5. Kurt Busch
6. Jeff Gordon
8. Kasey Kahne
9. Tony Stewart
10. Ryan Newman
11. Carl Edwards
13. Greg Biffle
