Fillet Or Bologna: California
California
Hendrick Big 3 (Fillet Mignon)– Mark Martin, Jimmie Johnson, and Jeff Gordon are all excellent prime picks for California (Auto Club Speedway). Both Johnson and Gordon have 3 wins a piece at this big two mile track and Mark Martin trails these two with one career win. Johnson is a very obvious pick this week for many statistically, but don’t be afraid to roll the dice a little bit and pick another Hendrick car. These three drivers will unquestionably be the front runners Sunday.
Kyle Busch (Bologna)– Yes, I know Kyle Busch finished in the top 5 earlier this year at California but a lot of things have changed since then. Roush cars were all front runners earlier this year also but look how far they’ve fallen at the intermediate tracks. The same thing can be said for Kyle’s performances at the highly aero dependent tracks. He looked more promising at Kansas then he has in a while, but until he gets some more good finishes under his belt I think picking him is bologna.
Juan Pablo Montoya (Fillet)– I know Fantasy Racers are very studious when it comes to making picks but when your looking over stats you may freak out when you come across Montoya’s. Don’t worry, he’s been good everywhere lately and there’s no reason it won’t continue at California.
Ryan Newman (Bologna)– Having Newman under the bologna listing is a no brainer. In the spring race ten of the Chasers finished in the top twelve. The only 2 Chase drivers who finished outside the top 12 were Ryan Newman and Mark Martin. Mark’s engine blew up but Ryan Newman was completely uncompetitive that day.
Roush Cars (Round Steak)– The Ford’s have been off the map for quite some time but they did pick up their game at Kansas. Kenseth, Biffle, Edwards, and even Jaime McMurray looked good at Kansas. I would say proceed with caution. If they’re good after happy hour by all means pick them.
Tony Stewart (Fillet)– The 14 team has been struggling for a long time but at Kansas they finally got out of their lull. They have been a tick behind the Hendrick cars but who isn’t? I would expect a solid top 10 out of them this weekend.
