Texas Fantasy Race Picks
Jeff Gordon
Why am I picking Jeff Gordon?
- Jeff Gordon won at Texas earlier this year.
- Jeff Gordon may very well have the best intermediate program in NASCAR right now.
- Gordon needs to race aggressive to put himself in position if he hopes to capitalize on a Jimmie Johnson mistake (if it does happen).
- Gordon has been consistently a top 5 driver at almost every intermediate track this year.
- Gordon had an impressive 134.o driver rating this spring and he led nearly a third of the race.
Other Driver Recommendations
- Jimmie Johnson– Its Jimmie Johnson. That should be enough said. I do expect a limited repeat of his Talladega performance where Jimmie Johnson will not race 100%. Also I honestly don’t think he’ll roll the dice at all in the race.
- Matt Kenseth– Now that the 17 missed the Chase it’s starting to look like their Intermediate program is turning around. Kenseth finished fifth earlier this year at Texas and he led nearly 15% of the race. Kenseth was also strong at Lowes recently.
- Kasey Kahne– Kahne is a Intermediate track ace. At the end of the race at Lowes if Kahne didn’t have restart problems then he may very well of won. Look for Kahne to be very good at Texas.
- Mark Martin– It’s been a Hendrick year at the Intermediate tracks in 2009 so Martin certainly needs to be considered a contender. I am concerned that the performances of the 5 have been declining recently.
- Juan Pablo Montoya– Many fantasy race pundits said Montoya would miss the Chase. I’m happy to report I wasn’t one of them. Montoya has been strong at the intermediates this year so if you have him use him.
Mr. Play it safe but don’t use the big guys up- David Reutimann – Reutimann won the pole earlier this year at Texas, led 40 laps, and finished 11th.
Mr. Think outside the box- Martin Treux Jr. – Treux was impressive for glimpses of time at both Atlanta and Lowes recently. The problem is that it was only for glimpses of time. If they can run the whole race like they did at certain segments in those races then he might very well be a contender.
Mr. Need a super sleeper- Sam Hornish Jr. – Hornish never got off the ground at Lowes (or in other races recently) but I honestly think that out of the bottom tiered drivers in NASCAR Hornish might very well have the best intermediate program.
