Daytona is the first race of the season and heading into the race weekend fans have plenty of information on hand to make an informed decision. Over the past week fantasy racers have seen qualifying, plenty of practice, an exhibition race, and of course the duels. Here’s a quick synopsis of how you can use this info
Qualifying– Didn’t matter unless your driver is on the front row
Practice– Practice speeds don’t matter at all. If you watch qualifying the only thing you should really be tuning in to hear is drivers saying “It handles good”.
Bud Shootout– Good for TV but the cars, track conditions, strategy, and everything conceivable is different.
Gatorade Duels– These races are really the key to analyzing what will happen in the Daytona 500. These races are a simulation of the 500.

Drivers To Watch
1. Tony Stewart– As I said in my Filet Or Bologna post this track should be hotter then recent 500’s because it will end earlier in the day (I’m not a weather man so I might be wrong here). Daytona is a handling track and Stewart is the most recent driver to win here. The 14 car was very competitive in both the Shootout and their Duel 150 race. It may take him 20 tries in this race but eventually Stewart will get one.
***My Onpitrow.com Expert Pick, yes that’s me at the top of the board.
2. Kyle Busch– There hasn’t been a race since the 2007 Kevin Harvick-Mark Martin melee where Kyle Busch hasn’t been a contender at Daytona. He arguably had the best car in both Daytona races last year.
3. Kurt Busch– He has all the bad luck out of the way already and he’s as good as anyone at Daytona. He just doesn’t have any wins.
4. Kevin Harvick– So far in Speed Weeks he’s finished first and second. He’s the hottest driver around right now. Harvick is hungry to get back to victory lane and end his three year losing drought.
5. Matt Kenseth– Last years win wasn’t a fluke. Matt will be leading the way for Roush Fenway Racing. The Fords are looking especially strong this year.
6. Mark Martin– He didn’t finish very good in his Duel race but he’s a smart racer. He’ll try to keep his car out of the big one and starting on the pole will be a big help.
7. Kasey Kahne– His Duel win was for real. The question mark now is how will he perform when he switches back to the old Ford engine.
8. Juan Pablo Montoya– People are always underrating him. In his Duel race he fell back and then he worked his way to the front.
9. Clint Bowyer– No one would conceivably pick him over one of the big name drivers but I’m telling you Clint Bowyer will be good Sunday.
10. David Ragan– He’s my official onpitrow.com dark horse pick. Ragan is at his best at Daytona. He’s very good in the draft.
