Play Patiently – Fantasy NASCAR Advice
The NASCAR season is really LONG. Because it’s so long players need to approach the season patiently. In fantasy NASCAR players have 36 weeks to grind it out for the top spot. When I look at the schedule it says one thing to me, and that is play conservatively until the time is right.
Not every week is the week for you to “make the big move”. There’s a place for the “Hail Mary” move but that isn’t every week. If you’re making the “big move” every week you may hit on something every once in a while (even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every once in a while) but most likely the odds are stacked against you. Many times I’ve observed that the “big move” players are the one’s who end up towards the bottom.
The benefit of playing patiently (conservatively) is that it opens the door for others to make mistakes. The easiest way to get ahead is to let others beat themselves. When you have 36 races to work with I can almost guarantee you that door will eventually open.
Last year in the Onpitrow.com‘s weekly expert picks I played conservatively every week. Not once did I ever put myself in the position where a “Hail Mary” move was required. I started off in dead last and stuck to my guns playing conservatively. It took me 30 races to get to the top spot, and when I really analyze the situation it was because James Jones (person in first majority of the year) approached the situation of playing conservatively just like I did. If I were to relate this situation to other sports I would relate it to the NBA. There are flashy players, and then there’s also Tim Duncan’s who aren’t flashy but there the one’s who win the championships. Here’s a screen shot of the final expert rankings from last year.
