A= Really, Really Good Pick
Denny Hamlin – Hamlin’s been a natural at this track since he first raced here. Pocono isn’t a place where you need to be creative. In the Pocono spring race nine of the current drivers in the top twelve finished in the top twelve. (Yahoo A Driver)
Jimmie Johnson – At the end of the last three Pocono races Jimmie Johnson has had to make a mad dash to the front of the field at the end of the race. If he can avoid problems and keep his track position he very easily could be the driver to beat. (Yahoo A Driver)
Carl Edwards – Check out what I said about Carl Edwards in my Contender or Pretender post. (Yahoo A Driver)

A- = Really Good Pick
Clint Bowyer – Denny Hamlin may be the driver who first comes to your mind from the spring race at Pocono but don’t overlook Clint Bowyer. Before Denny Hamlin took over the show Clint Bowyer was looking like the driver to beat. He started second and led 59 laps early in the race. Clint Bowyer was also strong at Indy so you definitely shouldn’t be overlooking him this week. (Yahoo B Driver)
Tony Stewart – Stewart definitely wasn’t a third place car earlier this year (where he finished), but in the COT era Tony Stewart has more top fives than anyone. (Yahoo A Driver)
Kurt Busch – Pocono is all about horsepower and the Blue Deuce will have plenty of it. Earlier this year he rallied to overcome a problem and finished sixth. (Yahoo A Driver)
B+ = Good Pick
Kyle Busch – Kyle Busch’s career numbers are awful at Pocono but his second place run earlier this year didn’t go unnoticed. He was the only driver to run in the top 15 for the entire race. (Yahoo A Driver)
Kevin Harvick – The NASCAR joke about Kevin Harvick for a longtime was that he’s never led a lap at Pocono. That jokes over because earlier this year he led 5 and wheeled the 29 car to a fourth place finish. (Yahoo B Driver)
Jeff Burton – Burton was a top ten car at Pocono earlier this year and Indy. There’s no reason for him not to be a top ten car this weekend. (Yahoo B Driver)
Jeff Gordon – Gordon was caught up in the Pocono “Big One” earlier this year. In the COT era Gordon has the tenth best average finish (13.6). (Yahoo A Driver)
Kasey Kahne – If you need to pick a driver outside the Chase Kasey Kahne should be your guy. He starts good (7.6 avg. start in COT) and finishes strong (11.0 avg. finish in the COT). (Yahoo B Driver)
Juan Pablo Montoya – Juan’s had lots of success at Pocono lately. In the last three Pocono races he’s finished 8th twice, and 2nd once. (Yahoo A Driver)
Joey Logano – He was pretty good earlier this year just like his other JGR teammates. Logano had more quality passes than anyone. (Yahoo B Driver)
Greg Biffle – The last time Biffle finished in the top ten at Pocono was in 2006. I think he’ll be a very playable driver this week. (Yahoo A Driver)
B = Just A Tier Below The Good Picks
Mark Martin – He’s never won here but that’s not the concern. My concern is that this team is only a 15th place team at best this year on a week to week basis. (Yahoo A Driver)
Jamie McMurray – I don’t know why he can’t be competitive this week at Pocono, but his numbers aren’t good. His average finish is 22.8. I personally would steer clear of him. (Yahoo B Driver)
David Reutimann – Reutimann was strong in this race last year and was running inside the top ten until Denny Hamlin wrecked him. Earlier this year he finished 15th. (Yahoo B Driver)
Matt Kenseth – The last four race trend for Kenseth at Pocono is 11th, high teen, 11th, high teen. If that trend continues Kenseth should finish 11th. (Yahoo B Driver)
Ryan Newman – His five-year average finish is tied for fourth best (11.4) but that’s because he avoids problems. Not because he runs competitively. Only once in the last five races has he finished in the top ten. (Yahoo B Driver)
Dale Earnhardt Jr. – Check out what I said about Dale Earnhardt Jr. in my Contender or Pretender post. (Yahoo B Driver)
B- = You Can Pencil Them In For Around 20th
Martin Treux Jr. – Treux has had limited success at Pocono. He finished 2nd once but at that time the #1 DEI team was on fire after their Dover win. Since then he hasn’t finished better than 15th. (Yahoo B Driver)
AJ Allmendinger – Remember AJ earlier this year? He put a block on Kasey Kahne and went on to finish 10th, his only career top ten at this triangle. (Yahoo C Driver)
Brad Keselowski – Keselowski’s only raced here once and he finished 21st. (Yahoo B Driver)
C+ = Got Some Question Marks Here
Marcos Ambrose – Ambrose finished 6th in his first start here. Since then his best finish is 30th. This will be his last ride in the 47 at Pocono. (Yahoo B Driver)
Sam Hornish Jr. – Hornish just barely missed getting a top ten in the spring race. Check out his Yahoo! race chart. It tells the story of a driver getting track position late and holding on for a little while. (Yahoo C Driver)
Paul Menard – Menard finished 16th earlier this year but his average running position was 28th. He was definitely a benefactor of the Pocono “Big One” earlier this year. (Yahoo C Driver)
C =I’m Not Picking Them
David Ragan – When it comes to picking Ragan I really can’t think of a reason why you should pick him. He’ll have a good engine under his hood but that’s about all. (Yahoo B Driver)
Elliott Sadler – In the last nine Pocono races Sadler hasn’t cracked the top twenty. Just like Ambrose this will be his last ride in the 19 at Pocono. (Yahoo B Driver)
