Chase Driver Survivor: Chicagoland
Following the events of today’s Chicagoland Geico 400 I’m prepared to stick a fork in two drivers championship aspirations.
The drivers who I’m ready to stick a fork in are…..
Denny Hamlin – One race into the Chase and Denny Hamlin is 12th in points. His 12th place Chase standing doesn’t really scare me but his 41 point deficit does. That’s nearly a full race behind. Under the current points system making up this many points and passing eleven drivers is impossible.
Matt Kenseth – Matt Kenseth ran good today but he ran out of gas and was penalized for being pushed on the final lap. Kenseth can’t afford to lose points on intermediate tracks to other drivers. At this type of track he needs to finish top five every race in order to win the championship. That didn’t happen today. What else concerns me about Kenseth’s championship hopes is New Hampshire and Martinsville.
