Beyond The Big Three In C: Martinsville Tums Fast Relief 500
Have you used up all of your David Ragan, Paul Menard and Regan Smith allocations already? Here’s some prospects beyond the “Big Three” (sorry about the bad news).
Bobby Labonte – Labonte is the most obvious alternative this week to fill your C list spot after the upper tier drivers. Since he’s left Joe Gibbs Racing things have been pretty bad for him here. Since 2007 his best finish is 13th but that’s the extent of the good news. The bad news is that his average finish since then is 28th and he’s led a grand total of four laps. In the last three Martinsville races he’s finished 29th, 43rd and 27th.
Landon Cassill – Cassill will be racing the 51 car once again for Phoenix racing. He’s only raced here twice and earlier this year he finished 26th. A big plus about Cassill is that you know he won’t be a start and parker.
Casey Mears – Mears had some success at Martinsville during his Hendrick / Childress tenure. His success included three top tens and six finishes in the top 21 in seven races. In the 13 car earlier this year Mears finished 30th.
Reed Sorenson – Sorenson is listed to drive Robby Gordon’s #7 Speed energy car. In the last two Martinsville races Gordon’s finished 22nd and 23rd so I think there’s a good probability he’s not a start and parker. Sorenson last raced here in 2009 and had finishes of 24th and 17th.
Dave Blaney – Blaney has finished 30th or worse in the last five Martinsville races. On a positive note his 30th was earlier this year.
David Stremme – Five of Stremme’s Martinsville starts have resulted in finishes of 33rd or worse. No one can say his 31st place average finish is skewed. Stremme has missed the last two races at Martinsville.
Joe Nemechek – Out of starts with everyone? If you want a point or two use Nemechek. He’ll start the race but he’ll be out of it by lap 25.
