Texas AAA 500: Fantasy NASCAR “Back Runner” Picks
Joey Logano – Logano finished 4th at Texas last fall but remember he was racing like Superman at the time in the midst of the hottest streak of his career. No one can mistake Logano for Superman this year. He only has one intermediate track top ten in 2011 and it came in the Coca Cola 600. Almost every drivers finish in that race requires an asterisk because of how it ended. Really the best case scenario this week is a 15th place finish. Did you know that Logano’s last top ten finish was at Watkins Glen! (Yahoo B Driver)

Jamie McMurray – McMurray has finished outside the top fifteen in the last five races at Texas Motor Speedway (25.2 avg finish). In this stretch not only has he not finished good but he also hasn’t ran well (22.2 avg running position). Another fantasy aspect you can’t overlook is McMurray’s results at other intermediate tracks this year (Charlotte – 29th, Kansas – 22nd, Chicagoland – 38th [engine], Atlanta – 16th, Michigan -23rd, Kentucky- 31st). (Yahoo B Driver)
Brian Vickers – Fast intermediate tracks like Texas are Brian Vickers strength but he’s really struggled here. His best finish (12th) came in his first start and he hasn’t gotten better. Since his last top fifteen in 2007 (14th) his average finish is 23.4. The 83 team has also lacked qualifying speed at Texas. Vickers won the pole in 2006 (Hendrick at the time) but since then he hasn’t qualified better than 13th. He’s had some better runs lately but I just don’t see any fantasy value this week. VOTE for who you think will win at Texas
David Reutimann – Out of all the drivers who I rank weekly David Reutimann has the worst average finish (25th). To be fair it’s skewed because in his first two races he had engine related DNF’s. A more accurate reflection of his average finish is 19.6. Earlier this year he finished 29th which is slightly better than his 30th place average running position. With only two top tens in 2011 I don’t know how anyone could recommend him. His recent finishes on intermediate tracks aren’t exactly a strong endorsement either (Charlotte 26th, Kansas 35th, Chicagoland 32nd, Atlanta 31st). Toss in the fact that he’ll be missing his crew chief and car chief then it’s pretty easy to say “don’t pick him”. (Yahoo B Driver)
