Las Vegas Kobalt Tools 400: Drivers who you don’t want to pick
Kurt Busch – Unlike his brother Kurt Busch has never had any sort of home field advantage at Las Vegas. In the last five Vegas races his average finish is 26.2 and he’s only finished in the top twenty once. He is a good qualifier though. In these five races only Kyle Busch and Mark Martin have a better average starting position. I will not be picking Kurt Busch in the Kobalt Tools 400. I just hope he has fun, that’s all that matters right?

Regan Smith – Smith has never finished in the top twenty at Las Vegas. From a fantasy NASCAR perspective that better make you nervous. I think you can pencil him in for a mid teens to mid twenties finish. In 2011 that’s where many of his intermediate finishes ranged within. Last year on intermediate tracks Smith accumulated the 27th most points.
Bobby Labonte – Labonte has quietly finished 14th and 16th in the first two races of the year. That doesn’t necessarily make him a valuable fantasy prospect. I’m not buying any stock in Bobby Labonte. In the last two Las Vegas races he’s finished 24th and 38th. In 2009 he finished 5th at Vegas and then people started speculating that Bobby Labonte was back. Well was he?
Jamie McMurray – McMurray is a capable driver on intermediate tracks but can you really trust EGR cars at the moment? Going by how he performed last year I think a mid teens to twentieth is the best case scenario. In the last five Las Vegas races his average finish is 21st and he’s average 21 points per race. His last top ten at an intermediate track was a ninth place finish at Darlington in May. Last year McMurray scored the 28th most points in the series on intermediate tracks.
David Ragan – Las Vegas is a Roush track but Ragan never really took advantage of his Ford ride. In five races at Vegas he has one top ten finish and four finishes of 22nd or worse. Ragan has never led a lap at Vegas and his average running position is 27.4. Look for him to finish just better than the start and parkers.
