Kansas STP 400: Drivers to avoid
Jeff Burton – In the last four races at Kansas Burton has come home with finishes of 21st, 25th, 18th and 23rd. In this select group of races he has a 26.3 average start and a 72.6 driver rating (20th best). I honestly don’t see any upside this week in terms of picking Burton. I believe momentum is important in fantasy racing and Burton is clearly lacking it (finished outside the top 20 in the last three races).
Joey Logano – Out of all the drivers who I rank on a weekly basis Joey Logano has the worst average finish at Kansas (27.2). Last year he recorded finishes of 23rd and 29th. I would not recommend picking Logano for the STP 400. So far this year he’s gotten lapped during green flag runs in every intermediate track race. I think there’s no question the #20 team has work to do on this track type.
Regan Smith – Last year at Kansas Smith finished 24th in both races. That’s the model of consistency in my book. His other finishes are 26th and 32nd. So far on intermediate track this season Smith has finished 15th (Las Vegas), 20th (Auto Club) and 23rd (Texas). I predict he’ll finish around 20th in the STP 400.
Aric Almirola – Almirola’s track record at Kansas is identical to mine, zero starts. Whenever this is the case in fantasy NASCAR don’t hit the panic button. Look at how they performed on similar tracks. For this I would recommend studying how he ran on Las Vegas, Auto Club ant Texas. In these races he finished 24th, 25th and 22nd. This year on intermediate tracks he has a 59.3 driver ratingĀ and has only ran in the top 15 for 1% of the laps run.

Juan Pablo Montoya – When Juan Pablo Montoya made the Chase in 2009 he had a really good performance Kansas. Unfortunately that’s also his only good performance. In his five other Kansas races he’s finished between 17th and 29th. The upside about Montoya is that in the last two intermediate track races he’s finished 16th (Texas) & 17th (Auto Club).
David Ragan – All that you need to know about David Ragan is that he’ll finish right ahead of the start and parkers. In terms of his track record at Kansas Ragan has been pretty consistent. He’s finished in the top twenty in all but one race. Last fall he finished 20th.
