Richmond Capital City 400: Drivers to avoid
Regan Smith – Last year Regan Smith recorded his two best finishes at Richmond. In the spring race he crossed the finish line in 17th and in the fall race he finished 18th. I predict a finish around 20th should be expected. This year at Phoenix (similar track) Smith qualified 3rd and finished 20th. (Yahoo! B Driver)
David Ragan – Last year at Richmond David Ragan finished 4th in both races. That’s pretty amazing considering his average running position was 14th and he only raced in the top fifteen for 58% of the laps run. Ragan also has one more top five finish to his name at Richmond. The downside about Ragan is that in his other seven races he’s finished 17th or lower. As long as he avoids problems on the track he might be able to notch his best finish of the year (best so far is a 21st place finish at Las Vegas). (Yahoo! C Driver)
Paul Menard – Out of all the drivers who I rank on a weekly basis Paul Menard has the worst average finish (28.9) at Richmond. He certainly didn’t help out his average finish last fall with his timely flat tire (video). Menard has only finished in the top twenty five once and that was in his first race back in 2007. I would highly recommend avoiding Menard Saturday night. (Yahoo! B Driver)
Bobby Labonte – In some tiered fantasy games like Yahoo! Bobby Labonte often seems to be a popular pick on “skill tracks” like Richmond. His Richmond stats suggest he shouldn’t be thought of so highly. His last top twenty finish was back in 2008. Labonte isn’t exactly the best qualifier at Richmond either. Since 2005 he’s only started in the top ten once and his average starting position is 29.4. (Yahoo! C Driver)
