Talladega Aaron’s 499: Fantasy NASCAR “Front Runner” Rankings
Martin Truex Jr. – In the last four Talladega races Truex has finished 12th, 6th, 13th and 10th. How can you not like that? Another attribute about Treux that I like is how well he ran at Daytona this year (finished 12th). He’s done a good job avoiding trouble on the track in 2012 and in theory he should be able to avoid problems again. For more information on my theory check out the Jimmie Johnson section of this weeks Top Tier Elite post. (Yahoo! B Driver)

Matt Kenseth – Kenseth won the Daytona 500 this year but he’s really struggled at Talladega. His last top ten finish at Dega was in the spring 2007 race. In the nine races since his last top fifteen his average finish is 25.7. Also in this select group of races he’s finished 25th or worse five times. I like Kenseth on plate tracks but his recent record at Talladega makes him a risky pick for the Aaron’s 499. Kenseth has done a good job avoiding trouble this year and I’m willing to roll the dice on him. (Yahoo! A Driver)
Kurt Busch – In 2009 Brad Keselowski won for Phoenix Racing at Talladega. Can Kurt Busch match that feat? Talladega is a “wild card” track and crazy things happen so he’s got a chance. At plate tracks I’ve often tagged Kurt Busch as the best plate racer who’s never won on this track type. When I say that I mean it. Since 2008 his record hasn’t been the best here but overall Kurt Busch has finished in the top ten in 59% of his races at Talladega. At one point in his career he had seven consecutive top ten finishes in a row. (Yahoo! B Driver)
Kasey Kahne – Last fall Kasey Kahne finished 6th. Other notable aspects about his resume at Talladega are two second place finishes. Other than what I’ve just stated Kahne has no additional top ten finishes at Dega. Kahne has had horrendous luck this year but it looks like his fortunes have turned. Currently Kahne has three consecutive top ten finishes. (Yahoo! B Driver)
