All-Star Race: Fantasy NASCAR “Mid Pack” Projections
Jeff Gordon – Don’t look for T-Rex to come out of it’s grave for this race. With all of trouble Jeff Gordon has had this year and the wild nature of this race I really don’t like the #24 this week. Drivers will do crazy things in this race and on cue Jeff Gordon will be in trouble once again. Gordon has been good on intermediate tracks this year (results don’t reflect it) but Charlotte is a track that has been pretty volatile to the former Rainbow Warrior. In the last three races here he’s finished 21st, 20th and 23rd. Jeff Gordon has won three All-Star races but his most recent was in 2001.
Brad Keselowski – Keselowski has been good on intermediate tracks this year but mistakes have been made in nearly all of them. At California he made a costly pit road mistake and at Texas & Las Vegas the #2 team had fueling issues. At Kansas he finally didn’t have problems. In that race he started 11th and finished in 11th. One attribute I like about Keselowski is that he’s good at milking pit road speed rules. The four guaranteed pit stops in this race should prove to be an advantage for him. Last year in the fall race at Charlotte both Penske cars underperformed. Kurt Busch complained that they were lacking horsepower.
